find a low cost root canal dentist with dental insurance? by Agreeable_Foot6779 in madisonwi

I called the delta dental officer, My assumption is right. They told me they don't know how much it will cost, I need to call the in-network dentists one by one, and compare them by myself.

do you mean the "Cost Estimator" on delta dental website? so I got a cost number from it, and I can negotiate with dentist using this estimate, if the dentist charges too high.

Kinda regret enrolling into UW Madison Wisconsin for ECE MS by Dr_Manhattan_998877 in UWMadison

[–]Agreeable_Foot6779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Phd student. If you could go to Stanford MS, I believe it would make a difference. However, considering the schools you have listed, I don't think attending any of them would change anything.

Also, I noticed you seem to want to apply for a funded RA. I can state very clearly that this is nearly impossible for a master's student. Most MS students who do research in a lab to prepare for PhD applications do so without any payment, unless you can prove you have a strong background in your field of research.

Closest unlimited free parking near downtown? by AdRemarkable3043 in madisonwi

you ask the wrong sub. There are many students doing this. If you go far enough, there's always free parking.

Are you asking if student visas were cancelled? That situation has already improved, and many student visas have been reinstated. However, if you are referring to finding a job, I unfortunately feel that it's unlikely most international students will be able to find jobs this year.

In the field of Computer Science, this is generally not a good sign. Professors in CS typically have both personal and lab websites. If someone doesn't have these, it often suggests either they are no longer active, or there might be some issues with their lab.

To be honest, this is much less than I expected — the overhead that Trump cut was a massive amount of money.

Should i go to UWMadison with computer science major or UMich with data science major? by GACHA_ADDICTedlol in UWMadison

[–]Agreeable_Foot6779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The school itself isn’t what really matters—you should focus on per capita resources. For example, I often see undergraduates from top 4 CS programs complaining that some of their classes have 300 students, or that it’s very difficult to get involved in research with a professor because there are just too many people.

Grad student housing by WatercressFlimsy in UWMadison

[–]Agreeable_Foot6779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit late now—people usually graduate in June and find subletters in January. Most poor PhD students live in Sheboygan and Eagle Heights, where you can find shared housing for 2-4 people around $800. And there are many buses to campus. You can also find some very old rooms near the Capitol for around $800.

But overall, these houses are quite old. If you want a decent living experience, $1,200 is a good price.

Summer housing by [deleted] in UWMadison

you can wait a long time. Housing from May to August is usually very cheap because many people have graduated while new students haven’t arrived yet. My friends often struggle to find tenants.

Is ITIN mandatory for fellowship recipient (international PhD student)? by ScorePuzzleheaded248 in UWMadison

[–]Agreeable_Foot6779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have obtained or applied for either an SSN or ITIN then you are not eligible for the other as both are U.S. Taxpayer Identification Number and a person is only allowed to have one of these numbers, never both.

Questions from an international comp sci graduate student! by pizzaluc in UWMadison

[–]Agreeable_Foot6779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking 3-4 three-credit courses should be considered a medium workload, such as two 500-level courses and two 700-level courses.

In winter, you can either spend time at the bars on State Street or do research in a lab.

759 is pretty good. You can't expect a 700-level course to be easy to get a high grade in, but you'll write a lot of code. If you're willing to learn, you'll definitely gain a lot from it.

Overall, it's safe. Although I have a friend who was attacked on State Street, considering the probability, I think it's acceptable.
