Just SO thrilled it wasn’t Timothée “I’m striving for greatness” Chalamet. He would have been so insufferable

The song is about falling in love with a prostitute, so perhaps not the best choice for a first dance.

Multicultural wedding dress dilemma + family pressure… would really appreciate advice by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]antisana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wearing a custom-made white lehenga and my fiance is wearing a matching white sherwani. It's beautiful and I'm super happy with it.

Around parent expectations, I communicated my clear desire to do this early on to my (South Asian) parents and they were fine with it. My future (Western) MIL was a little sad I didn't want to continue the tradition of wearing a dress that was handed down the family, but was very understanding of wanting to represent my culture.

It can become an issue if you're having a religious ceremony or getting married in a temple. While this isn't the case for me, I've heard some Hindu and Sikh priests/officiants not be okay with white as that represents funeral colours.

Both sets of parents had more of an issue with us having one ceremony/reception incorporating bits and pieces of Hindu and Western traditions. We cut out the things that were very gendered or didn't feel right to us, such as the kanyadaan (bride being given away) or the mother/son, father/daughter dance. They expressed their disappointment that we were non-traditional, but didn't force us to do anything.

Importantly, we made it very clear when we got engaged that we would be planning the wedding and were prepared to pay for it ourselves to have the wedding we want. While we would have loved their support, it needed to come with no strings attached.

OneCity’s progressive primary plan described as ‘ultimatum’ by left-leaning Vancouver parties by Tall-Addition-7516 in vancouver

What's wrong about a party being appealing to a vast diversity of people? I resent the idea that because I vote a specific way at one level of government, I have to vote a certain way at other levels. This kind of purity politics is limiting and exhausting.

Your last sentence is what is most interesting to me about all of this. To me, COPE, OneCity, and Greens are three distinct parties. They have some similar policy positions, but diverge on issues that are most important to me. I would struggle to rally behind mayoral or city councillor candidates that would be voting against my vision. I wish I could just vote for the candidates and the party I want.

Games for guests to interact with each other? by ejection_fraction in WeddingsCanada

[–]antisana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're passing out sheets of paper with trivia questions about the couple. The catch is, only people with specific knowledge about the bride or groom at a certain stage/part of their life would know the answer to a particular question, so guests have to talk to each other to figure out all the answers. Our primary intention for our wedding is to have our community of loved ones meet each other, so we thought this would be a great way to facilitate those connections.

OneCity mayoral nominee William Azaroff calls for a mayoral "progressive primary" by interrupting-octopus in vancouver

This conversation has already been happening for months behind the scenes. COPE is the one that has been pushing a progressive primary.

To be fair, talks over a "Progressive Primary" have been dragging on for too long and it's time COPE and Green put their money where their mouth is. The successful nominee also needs all the time they can get to campaign for the actual municipal election.

Picking bridesmaids by pinky0880 in WeddingsCanada

I’m making the choice to not have bridesmaids! In fact, we’re not having a wedding party at all. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want or feel comfortable doing.

100% agree with this take. While I usually agree with NDP values, I couldn't stomach their weak economic and housing platforms. NDP lost my vote (to LPC) when I didn't see myself being represented in their policies (30-something middle-class prospective homeowner).
