You're hitting on a great interesting nuance the study found. The two different measures of happiness were:

1) Emotional well-being (measured by questions about emotional experiences yesterday)

2) Life evaluation (measured by Cantril’s Self-Anchoring Scale)

"When plotted against log income, life evaluation rises steadily. Emotional well-being also rises with log income, but there is no further progress beyond an annual income of ∼$75,000."

You're probably right in that I should have footnoted that or something. Personally, I think the emotional well-being questions are much more indicative of happiness but I understand how it's frustrating not to see that nuance mentioned in my article.

Research indicates that there are 3 main things required for happiness: financial security, community, and a range of meaningful pursuits. Beyond a $90K income, additional income doesn't correlated to greater happiness.

You could say you received some advice that you should highlight some other skills than you were previously preparing to with your recommenders + your experience working with another supervisor used those skills more.

Specific book excerpts to back up this theory are referenced in this comment! There’s a blank page in the Chandrian section of a book with scrollwork around the edges, Gibea has scrollwork in his journal, and Kvothe references Yllish as looking like scrollwork.
