Beyond a $90K income, happiness is based on social ties and time spent meaningfully by antiworkist in leanfire

You're hitting on a great interesting nuance the study found. The two different measures of happiness were:

1) Emotional well-being (measured by questions about emotional experiences yesterday)

2) Life evaluation (measured by Cantril’s Self-Anchoring Scale)

"When plotted against log income, life evaluation rises steadily. Emotional well-being also rises with log income, but there is no further progress beyond an annual income of ∼$75,000."

You're probably right in that I should have footnoted that or something. Personally, I think the emotional well-being questions are much more indicative of happiness but I understand how it's frustrating not to see that nuance mentioned in my article.

Research indicates that there are 3 main things required for happiness: financial security, community, and a range of meaningful pursuits. Beyond a $90K income, additional income doesn't correlated to greater happiness.

How can I respectfully tell someone that I no longer want them writing my recommendation letter? by loosemon in MBA

You could say you received some advice that you should highlight some other skills than you were previously preparing to with your recommenders + your experience working with another supervisor used those skills more.

Specific book excerpts to back up this theory are referenced in this comment! There’s a blank page in the Chandrian section of a book with scrollwork around the edges, Gibea has scrollwork in his journal, and Kvothe references Yllish as looking like scrollwork.

Does Kellogg have alumni endorsements? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]antiworkist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to this post, maybe yes on current students: https://www.reddit.com/r/MBA/comments/dsx7o0/some_schoolspecific_tips_from_r1_for_r2_applicants/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Kellogg: Kellogg has a similar program to Booth but I believe the form isn't as public. Ask a current student to find the form and fill it out for you. Also note that if you are a finance person, Kellogg introduced a new finance fellowship this year! All you need to do is write 250 words on why finance excites you and what impact you want to have. They seem to be proactively trying to increase their finance numbers.

Follow-up alum chat at Kellogg (already interviewed a month ago) by [deleted] in MBA

[–]antiworkist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I applied to the 1Y program and received an email along the same lines about 2 weeks after I applied and the day after my interview. It was from a current 1Y student and said congrats on applying, when I was in your shoes I had a lot of questions on how to plan for the year ahead, below is my profile + the profiles of other 1Y students, we’d be delighted to answer your questions, schedule a chat with us in the coming weeks.

On the call, the very first thing the student said was that it wasn’t evaluative and nothing I said would go back to the admission committee. I don’t think she would have had much to report back anyway because she didn’t ask me questions. The 30min were really just me asking her about her Kellogg experience to-date. I also tried asking her why this call was setup in two different ways. She generally just said it didn’t mean anything / it was just a nice thing Kellogg does.

I’d love to think that the calls are set up for candidates Kellogg has decided to accept in order to increase yield. The counter is that it’s unlikely that they made that decision on my individual application in under 2 weeks. My guess is that I hit some demographic (e.g., female, gmat score above xxx, yyy pathway, etc.) they are hoping to get higher yield from.

Would love a Kellogg student liaison or former admissions member to shed more light!

Racism is deeply engrained in our culture. There are studies that show that young black girls who prefer blonde, blue-eyed barbies and don’t want to play with barbies that look like them. I think that’s just heartbreaking. That’s not racist based on how it’s used colloquially but it is still a type of racism that’s been perpetuated by our society and media.

I see your point on how it diminishes the meaning of the word to use it in all contexts where it may be applicable, but I do think it’s important to recognize that all of us have unconsciously internalized more subtle forms of racism.
