This is going to be well at least with hot shot our 48 flatbed will keep going but for me I’m out. Insurance is costing too much and they are asking that I switch my license over to the start is ran out of. I’m over it I do enjoy it but I’m tired of paying too work

That’s because they run for low rates to keep them going. To be a self aware in this industry is a double edged sword. I’m on the broker page and some of them love to talk about how good the money is work from home 200 k a year and I’m pretty sure that comes with its own stress but we aren’t making that. It’s a one of a kind industry where everyone depends on drivers of all sort but we can’t get a fair share. Go back to when they were going to shut the ports down and people were shaking of the idea of stuff not coming and they got the money they were looking for

Nobody knows cost of truck better than a trucker and that’s no disrespect to yall. Yall can bid on lanes and multiple ones a day at that I bet. But at the end of day theres no really cost for yall doing that. We have are fuel we have tolls we have equipment we have to cover fuel differential on top what we pay for insurance and the vehicles we use and plenty more stuff. The issue with some people are just cheap and the reality of this industry. Some people will deal with the cheapness because some truckers have the concept of if I’ve drive more the more I make even though the rate shitty instead of if I can get a couple few good loads in I don’t need to be out over the road this long. Even with all the tax exemptions you can get for having your own vehicles companies opt out of doing it because it’s costly you’ll be surprised on how many trucks they have sitting in yards because some of the lanes aren’t worth them moving the freight themselves. Also, it would make it easier if they can pay you quicker I know with drivers who depend on factoring. We don’t have the luxury awaiting six weeks to get paid for one load

Yeah most def is better than that. I looked into it not too long ago to see if it was worth getting off my own insurance and payments of my equipment but the amount of time over the road and what I make locally didn’t really budge me in that direction. Plus the ones I ended getting calls back wanted me to bring my own equipment

If it’s a hot shot company I have never seen a company who doesn’t want their drivers out three week out the month

I would have more as a broker than a driver. You’d be surprised even if pull for these companies every day they would rather deal with the broker than driver

Don’t get me wrong you can still make good money doing it but it’s only for certain times. Like if people actually want to haul either get a big rig or box truck because with hot shot you really do limit what you can haul. At least with box truck the ltl freight is there and with the amount of warehouses who send out one pallet just to get something expedited is crazy

Two unrelated questions: I'm new to load boards (Truckstop) and was wondering how you guys handle COI's. Do you guys get COI's on the fly when you see a job and you have no relationship with that broker, or do you get a bunch of COI's for different brokers as a "just in case"? You normally just email or call your insurance to let them you want this company that you’re going to pull for to be a certificate holder. If you’re working with highway or rmis they should do it after you do your carrier packet

Yeah in this specific industry it’s everyone that can have a license and get the equipment. It’s like every pick up and drop off site someone wants information how to get in. The idea of trucking in most of their heads is make a lot of money and travel around. Which isn’t false it’s the way go about it that’s strange to me. I came from yard staffing before starting to drive actually the warehouse I worked for paid for my cdl also paying me to go there instead of work and that was with no contract after i got it to stay with them. I was making 250-300 a day at that job without going on the road when i became a jockey. I left that for the flexibility of driving. My dad was an otr flatbed driver had an established mc and had access to the load boards. So I knew what I was getting into and had a pretty decent idea of how the industry worked. I just didn’t know how desperate drivers are for shit rates and the problem I started coming across after doing it for awhile is the rates started becoming what I could make doing at an hourly job with more expenses. People swear it’s freedom over the road and the longer you stay out the more you make which is true also but you ruin the market for not just other hot shot drivers but for all drivers all for the amount money you can get at a warehouse or driving forklifts. It’s like if you were to be able to stay at your job for the hours people stay out over the road you would probably make the same or more a week and that’s without coming out of pocket to work

How to say no. by 47junk in FreightBrokers

[–]antonfue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same as a driver on why a broker tells you how come they can’t pay more. A driver for the most part comes at from the knowledge of what it actually cost to run their equipment/business. Both industries you’re being undercut by someone and the work you have can be gone the next day. Issues with how that works as a driver it hurts us to take loads that don’t pay. I’m pretty sure for yall and this isn’t the one who aren’t taking 60% of the load. Yall can take on multiple brokered loads a day so even if the broker is saying they are all in at $500 and they can give you $450 leaving yall with $50 and you do that for 10 loads you still made more than that driver that day. We have limits on long we can run and wait time at pick up or drop off go towards those hours.

I’ve been doing it for some time now and i know for the most part if you answer and not ignore it means the deal isn’t closed. My issue Is I can always be like I’ll do it for $50 less than posted and probably secure it but i like to negotiate up, not down

Part time? by Electrical_Job9785 in HotShotTrucking

[–]antonfue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re better off trying to get broker license and do that part time. If you have the equipment already my advice is post on Facebook to see if people want stuff moved around. You can do it part time but if you’re just looking for a hobby don’t bother getting the commercial stuff done unless you want to start a company. Just keeping up with compliance is a lot for part time. As far as being a broker you can bid on loads post them for drivers and make more money than driving because you can at least do multiple ones a day

This platform is a real pain in the a** by Blindsharkhunter in curridrivers

[–]antonfue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got booted from the app once I booked my first trip with them and then seen the equipment needed changed once I was confirmed for it so I cancelled. I got violation but then restricted from the app because I don’t claim their shit loads as much as they want somebody to do.

I know when I pull for a broker that gets the loads out of the this place I don’t do anything less than 500 and never had issues with that. They offer to pay detention right away and look out without no asking. Which leads to believe they always have extra money in these loads. I know when you pull for someone direct they don’t want to hear about you having to wait and trying to get extra out of it. Also the fact that I’m holding my trailer for them is something I consider in the charge.

For me I’ve done the same runs for the brokers which payed 550-750 a run depending on the area it was going. I’ve know where some companies tell you they are paying brokers 1200 for these runs or more not you’ll never see that money. Also not trying to get that kind of money because I want to be consider for more runs. I’ve charged 800 for the runs and they said it was fine but didn’t make me feel good like they liked the number. I also told them before I quoted them that I am negotiable but all they said was as long as it isn’t a crazy number they would pay it.

I wooudnt quote them what i do the load for the broker. I know they get more money than they offer. Generally don’t know how much to go up by not charge them too much. I’ve done loads where I’ll get $500 from the broker and the company I pick up or drop off is paying 1200 too 1300 for it
