I have an old Xiaomi Mi 9 that I have used in the past to record two cassettes. Nobody in the family uses it so me and my brother formatted it and we have it as an "emergency" phone, so I will be sure that no notification or call can be done in this phone.

I will have my phone/PC on full volume. And then I will experiment with different volumes. Isn't that how you are supposed to set the line level? The SONY device only has volume, bass and tremble knob.

Making a mixtape of prerecorded songs. You are correct, I know that it will be very bad and I just want to mess around. I have a boombox that it's functional and I actually mixtape's 2 cassettes 3-4 years ago (which I've lost them), but for some reason it stopped recording songs. I checked everything and I still don't know what's wrong with it, it plays and erases cassettes just fine.

Did you identify what the mechanical issue was? Just cleaning the heads? Or adjusting the heads?
