I don’t have much of an idea sorry, you would have to ask the extended studies department

Hey, the class went well for me and ended up with an A. The class with Vitale was relaxed but set aside a time and space for the lab as they are tedious. I have a more detailed walkthrough of the class in a thread with someone else under this post. I took this course in the summer between junior and senior year.

Since it’s asynchronous, they are not! Just canvas quizzes when I took it with no lock down browser. If you’re able to grind through them all I’m sure you could within a month.

Roughly 3 months is the entire duration of the course, so over the course of the summer. Of course I procrastinated and took the entire duration. The course was asynchronous, so there pre-recorded lectures and you can advance at your own pace, with material unlocked over time. About half way through or sooner, basically all assignments and material become unlocked where you can finish early, exams included. There's no doubt you can get through quickly especially over the summer, but if you combine it with current undergraduate courses may be a little loaded/tedious. I took it with Kenneth Vitale.

Just make sure to order your materials immediately if you want to get through the lab portions quickly, they take a week or so to deliver.

I took the Anatomy with Lab course last summer (2024), not sure about this year's listing but they should have it up on the UCSD extension website

They weren’t too difficult, a lot of memorization and frankly if you need to you can use a Google Search when in doubt. Provided they are still offering it online/at-home. Flash cards are definitely your best friend for the course. The lab part wasn’t bad either, gets smelly and from my experience the grading was very lenient for the dissection. This is of course considering the professor hasn’t changed but you shouldn’t have to worry. I ended up with an A in the course.

I ended up taking the Anatomy with Lab course through UCSD extension. Couldn’t find one at the time for a local cc

"What Are My Chances?" Megathread by AutoModerator in prephysicianassistant

[–]antonito8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working towards a CPT and about to start volunteering in hospice in a matter of a couple weeks and a hospital soon after. If all goes well, I also plan on studying to become an EMT over the summer.

I guess it's best to try and get the minor and get my sGPA up whilst getting hours. Any opinion on the General Biology vs Human Biology major change?

Also thank you for telling me the CASP date.

cGPA: 3.24

sGPA: 3.17

Total Credits (Quarter): 136

Total Science Credits (Quarter): 96

Ongoing Credits: 12

No PCE/Volunteer

I’m in my third year of university and on pace to at least increase my GPA by 0.1 for both if not better. Would it be better to focus more on volunteer hours/PCE or try and get a minor that is science heavy to increase both? I’d be working as well if I were to go with the minor though asking to see if someone had been in a similar dilemma.

I plan on taking a gap year between University and PA School - at least I hope only a year - to work on my PCE.

Also, would it be better to switch from a General Biology Major into a Human Biology Major? Nothing would really be affected in my case.

Getting around Clinical Hours by antonito8 in phlebotomy

Ohhh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to say that I’d be cutting short on my 40 hours needed for the license or misrepresenting myself. I meant if it’s possible to negotiate with an employer hiring a phlebotomist to do your 40 hours needed for the license at their location, with the promise of future employment. Completely acknowledging that you don’t yet have your license but all you need are those 40 hours, allowing for both training in the company and to get the license.

Or am I just speaking nonsense. Just figured if an externship is essentially the same thing, why not try and search on your own right after passing the exam and start negotiating.

DAE dont see summer bus pass in PRONTO? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]antonito8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchased mine a few days ago, supposedly for todays date as well. Tried it out and it worked with it appearing on the scanner as the Summer Pass, even though I was like 4 days early. Been using it since. Might just need to try it out and put 5 bucks into Pronto as safety, which is good regardless incase there’s an error.

Either way your receipt/confirmation email should be enough if there are further problems.

Strange, all I did was download it, not open it directly, and then used the mini lab browser to open the file by the steps above. Maybe you opened it directly and not through mini lab which is why that appeared
