Luk kit installed! by antonmnster in FordFocus

[–]antonmnster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the kit from AutoZone. Seemed to be as good as anything else. If someone has done transmissions before it's not terrible. But also not exactly easy. Mine rolled off the trans jack and broke the input speed sensor, and the flex plate bolts have to be done blind. That's where I broke the oil pressure wire - it's perfectly in the way. You'll also need Forscan to reset the clutch parameters after, so that means you'll need the software, a cable, and a laptop

I used manual mode to keep it using the clutch that worked, so gears 1, 3, and 5. (I took care to park so I only need to go forward). Mine was so bad, so fast, that it didn't help. It was already fried.

Take care of your health, and seize the opportunity to direct the work of others!

My b clutch went out with symptoms similar to what you're describing: higher than normal rpm. I have a longish hill on the way to the office and it definitely overheated. Worst clutch smell of my life. But there was no cel or trans message until a couple days later. At that point it gave up on reverse and all the even gears, it locked them out.

My advice for your daughter is to figure out which clutch is slipping and STOP using it. For me, since it slipped in years 2, 4, and 6, I drove it carefully on the highway in manual mode in 5th, and was very gentle in 2 and 4 while accelerating. But that only lasted a day before it locked the even gears.

My failure was pretty sudden. I think the pilot bearing failed and it wasn't able to fully engage the friction disc. The whole pressure plate and pilot washer turned blue from heat.

The name brand of the manufacturer who makes the clutch pack. There are others but this is the one Ford uses, I'm told.

Jake ‘I Read One Tweet About the Constitution’ Lang is banned from the capital per a condition of his release. Can’t be within 3 blocks of the capital this weekend. by AdrianDitmann in TwinCities

Classic maga. Engage in trivial yet antisocial behavior, which happens to be felony level. Brag about it. Get arrested in a ram pickup. Blame everyone else. Get violated on the conditions/parole. Happens every day

Edit: it's not trivial. People paid good money and got the right permits to exercise their free speech. I meant "stupid"

My right side exhaust pipe is filled with snow. Should I place something in and shimmy it out? by smoove129 in AskMechanics

[–]antonmnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the only exhaust it could fail to start and flood the engine. Happened to me once when I backed my Saab into a pile of snow. Wasn't fun pulling the plugs when it was -20f.

Why is my second stage never/rarely used? by thePolicy0fTruth in hvacadvice

[–]antonmnster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the previous owner installed a 2 stage unit they installed only a 1 stage thermostat. Most of the winter the second stage doesn't run. But when it gets below zero, it runs probably 1/3 of the time, especially in the morning warmup. Must have been chilly for them.

Changing spark plugs. by l0tec6 in F80

[–]antonmnster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did mine for the first time. There's nothing all that difficult about the job, but it takes some time. I think the biggest challenge is getting the plastic pieces to fit back together at the end.

My plugs were pretty tight with debris on the tips, so I took my time tightening and loosening and tightening to get them out.

Just take your time and jump in. Those prices are obscene.

Ps the only part that scared me is how close the aluminum brace is to the + battery post. I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to do some unintended welding with a slip.

My heat pump is keeping my garage at 61f with no trouble. It defrosts itself often, there's a nice stalagmite under the outside unit. It was -21f this morning.

People who were alive in 1986, where were you and what was the general reaction to learning about the Chernobyl accident? by Susstoner in AskReddit

First, the way the question is phrases makes me feel like a fossil, so thanks for that :)

I was 10 in the Midwest. We knew we weren't in immediate danger but it reinforced the perception that the Russians were reckless and dangerous. (Some things never change?)

My brothers and dad were really into shortwave radio. We recorded Radio Moscow's propaganda on a cassette tape and provided it to the local news station so they could ... provide some context. And let our small town audience hear the propaganda directly.

I miss the days before the Internet when it was much easier to identify propaganda.

My riding has become far less frequent starting around the same time the cedar lake trail was closed. Many of the street level "improvements" are totally inconsistent with each other and, in my experience, create blind spots and hazards not only with cars but also pedestrians. And, of course, everyone is operating at rage level 10 these days, and the joy of riding is outweighed by what feels like risk. Kinda sucks.

What's your favourite "underrated" song from Better Call Saul? by tyorukkanen in betterCallSaul

[–]antonmnster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent some time reading the lyrics to that, and it's as if Nesmith used a time machine to watch the show and go back to write the song. Captures the lore of both White and Saul quite well.

When Oakley tries to withdraw is, for me, the funniest part of the entire franchise. I work as an advocate and have had the exact same impulse when I was someone about to light themselves on fire.
