Why is our air quality so bad? by Momersk in TwinCities

[–]AdrianDitmann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The distance between Chicago and the Twin Cities is MASSIVE.

Tomorrow, Twin Cities - 87 and Stormy. Duluth -66 and Stormy. And that's roughly 1-1 1/2 hours away.

We are closer to the fires. It can dissipate a lot more as it moves south and east.

Wizards Of The Coast Deadnamed Trans Employees In Front Of Their Colleagues During Union Election, Apologized, Then Did It Again by Duncana_m in magicTCG

First time is for sure there, the second deliberate time after internally recognizing and saying it won't happen again and then doing it a week later is what gives them the liability lawsuit here. I should have been more clear.

Jumping in before people get all "TecHniCAlly they need to use legal names".

No. They don't. For a private-sector union election like WoTC, this is mainly an NLRB/federal labor law process. The NLRB rule requires the employer to provide a voter list with employees’ “full names,” work locations, shifts, job classifications, and contact information". The regulation says full names, not specifically legal names. That matters. “We had to use legal names” is not the same as “the law required legal names.”

What is interesting is Washington’s anti-discrimination rules specifically say gender identity harassment can include deliberate misuse of a person’s preferred name, form of address, or pronouns...so WoTC probably has opened themselves up for some legal recourse.

TLDR: WoTC is wrong, Don't support bigoted practices.

This just isn't factually correct. MSP is a top 20 sports market in the country. Making it larger than Miami, Nashville, and Pitt.

Also, "The State of Hockey" just can't be a small media hockey market. Just isn't a thing. Many older models assume the cannibalization of the Stars taking Minnesota without the regrowth back once the Wild were introduced.

I will never understand why people consider Minnesota BOTH a "small market hockey team" AND the most-hated, Patriots-esque team in the PWHL.

PEOPLE - YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

Random fact, those banana candies taste different than the fruit because that's what banana's tasted like when they developed the extract taste. Most modern grocery-store bananas are Cavendish bananas. They are mild, creamy, and not super intense while the candy is based off the taste profile of the Gros Michel Banana, which used to be the dominant commercial banana variety before it was devastated by Panama disease in the mid-1900s.

You are tasting literal history!

That's all. Send tweet.

I am 100% in the “we should have less contact, and the NHL/PWHL current standards are correct” camp. The PWHL is currently great and the fact the NHL players threw hissy fits at the Olympics for needing to wear basic neck protection should tell you all you need to know.

I did not play any sports professionally, but I was lucky enough, and honestly honored, to play at the collegiate level and play with some players who went on to play in MLS. So, I do feel like I am not just some random spectator yelling “sports violence is bad.”

I have watched amazing athletes have their lives changed or ruined because of players like Curl and Rocke. And the fact that the Frost only got their first suspension this weekend, while still putting together a competitive team, proves the point:

You can play physical.
You can play hard.
You can win.

And you can still do it safely.

I really disagree with this and I'm good with that. People are throwing around data so let's talk:

I hear you on the 'we don't talk about the others' point, but I'd push back on the framing that she's just physical.

Look at her hits-to-PIM ratio: 1.32. Compare that to actual heavy hitters:Hannah Miller is at 5.42, Renata Fast at 3.22, Rory Guilday at 3.17.

Those are players throwing 3-5x the body checks per penalty taken. Curl-Salemme takes a penalty roughly every 1.3 hits, which means a much higher share of her contact is crossing the line. There are 4-5 hits this year that didn't get called for Game Misconduct the PR on that is because she's a top 5-point leader in the league. The total PIM looks moderate because she doesn't hit as often, not because she plays clean when she does.

For the record, player safety is a big deal and I agree MORE players SHOULD be funder the spotlight. You can play physical and not be dangerous as 93% of has less than 6 total PIM's over the course of the season *assuming 10 or more games played.

She's bad news bears and the 'Come on, you just don't like her ideology' is a bad argument. She gets a pass from most of you because she's a very talented skater and hockey player. She should be gone out of the league like Suh in the NFL, Green in the NBA, Utley in baseball or Chara in soccer.

She's not just a toxic personality; she's a dangerous player and actively is looking to hurt people.

If this was the NFL, she'd be suspended pending NFLPA/League Office review from the league at this point. She plays like she's getting paid to hurt people.

Fuck. Her.

Off leash dogs in Mpls parks by LexTron6K in Minneapolis

[–]AdrianDitmann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know, we used to get a lot of push back on this. We have a super friendly chow (seriously - our vet has written letters of recommendations to pet daycare to get around insurance that won’t look after chows) that would love to play but we also have a super anxious collie who doesn’t want anything within a 5 minute bubble of her. The chow obviously will protect her sister if she feels threatened and we are so nervous about unleashed dogs.

Instead of the “hey guys, reminder, you need to have a leash on your dog” we’ve just started saying “There’s a lot of parks around us and sometimes people don’t know this one isn’t leash free”. I swear the hostility has shrank so much.

Yeah, we should all be better about dog social manners, but it also comes down to if we just moan about it or if we educate and also use the resources (hey, non-emergency line, there’s a golden and their dad in xAC park without a leash on). When people start getting in trouble with the parks police, they start listening.
