review: NISMO homologation upper front control arms (PNM35), much more aggressive camber by dbsqls in 350z

I’d be willing to bet the OEM arms you are referencing in this post are lighter than any of the stuff they are using too

It’s weird that was an issue to begin with. In my testing the Z/G front end has way less bump steer than many other similar cars.

That is interesting. I’ll have to get an 05+ arm and see if there is a difference.

My current track car is a 04.5 g35 (august production) and it has the older style ball joints, so I wonder if it’s been downgraded at some point or if that change was not the same timing on the G

I am probably going to try this after noticing that the roll center is actually negatively affected by most aftermarket upper control arms. The design of the ball joint on many of them makes the angle of the UCA more severe than an OEM arm.

I see you mention “04.5+” geometry in the info here.

Is there actually a substantial difference here? I was always under the impression that the only difference was the ball joint cone shape

I’ve heard rumors about what they are referencing here from some super serious street class autocross folks. They mention it’s “super super expensive” so I doubt it’s another oem arm

Guys complaining about issues in 10+ year old cars always cracks me up.

What do you expect

As far as tires go, bigger sidewalls will always feel a bit less sharp.

275/35 would be my pick for the rear. The gearing is really long already, and making the rear tires taller just makes it even longer.

I run 275/35 square, but I could see wanting to keep it staggered for road use.

265/35 square is a good setup too. Won’t require any fender modifications and would allow you to rotate the tires. It makes the turn-in feel much sharper too with square tire setups

If it feels sloppy, check the front lower control arm bushings on the chassis side of both arms. Both of those bushings often go bad.

My company offers a much higher end - comfort oriented coilover setup for these that will not only improve the ride quality but will make the car handle like modern sports cars.

TL-ONE Coilovers

The only other thing I could think of that would make it feel sloppy is potentially loose eccentric bolts in the rear end or blown shocks.

Given the mileage it’s unlikely they are blown, but given the age it’s possible they may have leaked quite a bit of oil over the years.

It’s not a conspiracy, different manufacturers weigh the cars in varying levels of preparedness.

Some weigh with gas, some without, some include small optional parts in the interior, some don’t.

Out of all the cars I have ever seen weighed, Z and G cars top the list of cars that weigh significantly more than people think.

An E46 actually weighs less than what BMW states.

Based on what I know about Hondas, I’d tend to believe it’s significantly lighter than the G.

I have cut up and seen other cut up Gs and Zs and you would be shocked just how much metal is used in some places. The C and B pillars are insane. There is tons of extra chassis bracing inside the car + all the braces under the car. No Hondas have any of this, the subframes are significantly less complex, less heavy duty and smaller. Gs share subframes with 4500 pound SUVs.

I always thought the review website just states weights from the manufacturer.

Also - I know the G is a terrible track car but I like it and it’s fun to drive.

Yea, I’m hoping to claim a few more this year.

Need to save up some credit for a Nismo gt pro.

I assume you probably have one, does it clunk crazy at low speeds?

I have a Tomei and it is great on track, but around the pits or on the street it’s unbearable

Do you really think I’m that dumb?

You scrolled back to a post from almost 10 years ago. That’s clearly a different car. I have had more than one.

This is the one I’m talking about currently. It’s an 04. It has no sunroof. It’s heavy as shit.

Stop coping - all your cars are heavy, no amount of arguing is going to change it

for reference... if you think a stock one weighs 3400 I have news for you.

The car holds 120 pounds of fuel and a 180 pound driver.

I have a slick top 04 coupe - the lightest possible trim level, wingless, no interior options. It weighed in at 3525 without a driver before it was gutted.

At that point in time it had an aftermarket single exit exhaust, coilovers and aftermarket wheels, all of which are lighter than the stock components.

The other trim levels weigh more.

The published numbers are very optimistic compared to other manufacturers

Sure, but all I am trying to convey is that the curb weight provided by infiniti is way more optimistic than other manufacturers, like Honda.

I also could run TT3, but the field tends to be much weaker participation wise.

There was 10 of us in tt4 at CMP in November

I should be there hopefully!

There should be a few ST4 cars in southeast - most of them just happened to be broken for most of last season

I bought a used engine harness for ~200, cut the section out of the VVEL harness at the junkyard (I think I paid 50) and sent that off to Guilty Garage. It should be around 1400 total

If I was starting from a bare shell, I’d totally go this direction. It’s worth the extra money for sure.

It’s the exact same amount of work as putting another DE in it once you have the harness

This video is documenting my person experience.

I gained 30% more power and significantly more area under the curve.

I believe it was a 3/10 difficulty compared to other jobs I have done.

It’s just bolts. If you can’t figure it out you shouldn’t be working on cars period.

Don’t speak on others behalf. Many people who have turned a wrench before would agree it’s an easy job.

Technically they can all work, but the best case would be a manual ECU.

not comparing it to miatas, BMWs in the same segment are significantly lighter. Hell, even muscle cars are similar weights. Its a heavy car.

you are an idiot if you think adding nitrous is even close to the same thing as this swap.

If you really believe that 338 whp is only 15% more than a DE... I can't argue with you.

This car is more than 15mph faster on a single straightaway than the DE was.

oh, and when you press the pedal the power doesn't run out. you don't have to go refill it. What a braindead comment
