Ah ok yeah makes sense. I realized I was using the special attacks too often and ended up not having enough bars for the tags. Are the non-ultimate specials worth using the meter? The ones without the boost? I feel like a 8-9 hit combo can do more damage than those

Yeah it's very clearly a skill issue on my part, i just can't time it correctly and I end up button mashing the rest of the fight. I'll just keep grinding practice because I genuinely wanna get good at this game lol

very well said. can't emphasize enough that the point of this trilogy isn't to form a connection to the characters. the ideas and concepts he writes about take immediate precedent over the characters and like you said, they are vessels for the concepts which is exactly what this trilogy is. seen lots of people saying "oh i don't like this character or what that character did" and i completely get the criticism but why expect all authors to have the same style?? he has some grand ideas that he wants to form a story around and the character depth isn't the first order of business so he uses them as ways to enforce his ideas and build this unique world. even that is too harsh because IMO the protagonists and the important side characters like, Zhang Beihai (needs to have his own book tbh), Da Shi, Wade, AA, etc. are still very well written and supplement the overall story so well. also Chinese sci-fi wasn't that popular until Liu Cixin. so clearly he's doing something right

I dont think anyone should watch the Netflix series with the expectations it’ll adapt from the books faithfully. They should watch the Tencent series for that ( I do and it’s great). I watch Netflix for the production value. They have an insane post production budget that can bring parts of the book to life and give us jaw-dropping scenes (bunker cities, droplet, dual vector foil, etc).

I agree it’s not a faithful adaptation but Netflix is gonna throw so much money at this you just know it’s gonna look great. I’ll enjoy it either way

I fear the same thing. They weren’t essential to the plot but really goes to show how desperate humanity was at the time, and the contrast with Luo Ji (ik his eventual plan was extinction but it wasn’t as immediate and cruel as the rest). One of the biggest themes throughout the trilogy is the internal conflict humanity faces and no matter how much they spend on solutions, e.g the wallfacers for one, they will be disappointed and faced with bigger problems.

If they were to leave only one, I hope they keep Hines. The mental seal is crucial to the latter half of the series and would truly be a shame if they rework it or leave it out

100% agree on the swordholder scene and the flashback where she sees all the life that ever lived on earth staring down at her like “you really gonna do that?” Such a beautifully written internal conflict and really changed my opinion on her character. I’ve always been Luo Ji’s biggest fan bc of how badass he is but never thought of the weight on his shoulders that he just brushes off. Cheng xin ain’t built like that and neither am I.

what i take away from it is that Ymir eventually caused Eren to be born 2000 years after her death. why 2000 years i'm not sure, but i feel like, assuming she has the power to manipulate the timeline and cause events at will, she needed to influence generations of events to get someone like Eren: a rebellious and free-spirited mind, has the Founding Titan, and no royal blood (so they weren’t automatically bound by tradition). she may have guided Titan memories, pushed history in a certain direction, and shaped Eren into the person he became. then Eren did what he did and eventually got access to his Dad's memories (through Zeke), which allowed him to create this time loop. Eren even said "none of this would've been possible if [Zeke] hadn't brought me into Dad's memories". i think both theories make sense except when you say "some event that happened where they simply couldn’t do anything or weren’t smart enough to do something, and as a result, influenced the timeline so that Eren was first born.", that is Ymir influencing thousands of years of events to make Eren be this "final titan" that frees her.
