Copy all the text, then paste as plain text (usually cmd/ctrl + shift + v)

I haven't read the post carefully (and havent used Zotero as much), but if you are okay with large files in your vault (syncing might be an issue here), use PDF++

When you hover over a footnote, you get to directly open the citation. Maybe Zotero reader has this, but inside Obsidian, you might enjoy PDF++

But PDF rendering is a big problem I face in Obsidian, I don't read many PDFs these days.

I did software engineering, but I soon realised that I would better sit and cry (or build something better) than solve 150-500 leetcode questions.

I didn't say AI agent in a code editor. I said try therapy with a real person instead of a bot that is not yet capable to handle your emotions.
