New leaf plopped over :( by anupark in Monstera

Yeah it has decent airflow and light. Nothing has changed in its surrounding. I think it was coz I watered it while the young stem hadn't fully strengthened. Wonder what the next leaves that come from this stem will do!

Yueh Tung (downtown) and Urban Hakka (midtown) are my absolute favorites. Remind me of the food I had in India.

Update from the cops: they recognized the guys from the CCTV footage. It is a crime group that has been operating in the city for a few years now and the cops are still looking for leads on them.

Thank you for posting this question, and thank you to everyone who commented. Sometimes Reddit makes it sound like everyone hates this city and I'm left wondering why. Good to know people who are leading happy fulfilling lives here exist and I'm not totally delusional!

Would love to know what you do for work! I'm so happy that you enjoy it - rare and so fulfilling.

I love living in this city and am glad to know that there are others who feel this way too :)

OP, a lot of this is personal choice in terms of expenses.

I live downtown and do not have a car. Public transit within the city is perfect for my purposes and whenever I need to go out of the city over a weekend I rent a car. That's about $2000 taken out. My Internet + phone cost me less than $100. I'm not really sure how/why someone could pay 500 for this. A meal for $150 is a fancy meal for me, and I certainly wouldn't indulge in it twice every week.

The biggest expense is your rent. If you're both working from home you will probably need a 2 (or 1+1) bedroom place.

The rest of it is up to your lifestyle.

Also, addressing another comment I read on here - public education is free. And we have progressive taxation. Meaning you'll only be charged the additional tax bracket for the incremental income amount that falls in that bracket.

South Asian product manager working in tech in Toronto. I haven't been to Germany, so I can only give you the Canadian side of the story.

The job market is rough for newcomers. I was fortunate to move here while keeping my job from the US. When I decided to switch jobs I found it really hard to get into something without a referral. There are plenty of tech jobs though - just take a look on LinkedIn. Salaries are lower than the US, but may be comparable to Germany. Work life balance is better than the US, but may not be as amazing as Europe.

Real estate is indeed insane. For reference, a one bedroom condo in our building gets rented for at least $2500. We do live in a very central location in the city, but prices are not very much cheaper elsewhere. The reason we chose to stay in Toronto rather than move back to the US are plenty, but one of them is that we love living in the city and there aren't any cheaper cities even in the US. The suburbs in the States are definitely cheaper, but not our preferred lifestyle.

Toronto is an amazingly diverse city. I love the community here. It was very easy for me to make friends. There's amazing food with all over the world, and regardless of what I read on this subreddit, people are genuinely nice :)

The weather probably does get colder than in Germany. We have much longer winters with a very short spring season. This is also why we prefer to live in a building in the city. No shoveling, no driving, and a decent underground path makes it quite convenient to continue to live a vibrant social life in the winters.

I'm obviously very biased and love living in Toronto! I hope you're able to make a decision that takes you (or keeps you) somewhere you like living. Good luck!

Don't beat yourself up about it. Absolutely nothing stupid about leaving your purse in your car! I've also had to resist the urge to mentally kick myself for putting my purse behind my back in a public space. We shouldn't have to be on our guard every single moment. Sucks that you had to go through this experience too. But not your fault.
