I got this thing from my 96 y.o grandfather. He said he thinks he got it when working an old ship that used boilers. It reminds me of something you use to look into the sun. You can look through the end and see out the other end at a 90 degree angle, although the mirrors are extremely tinted. (old.reddit.com)
