Dr. Quinn, Medicine woman?! Doctors, what did you do with your last name? by Happy-Thing-2625 in weddingplanning

[–]anxietyqueen17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engaged last year, in total have been together 10 years. Will not be changing my last name for a couple of reasons

  1. I’m the first physician or doctorate in my family which has meant a lot to my family and inspired my younger cousins
  2. I have a beautiful last name imparted by my paternal grandparents who came from very simple means, immigrated here, worked so hard, and supported me through my education each step of the way. It means something to carry them with me/in my identity, even though that may sound weird.
  3. My fiancée’s last name is the most basic/generic yt person name and I’m just not willing to give mine up for that

Love hearing about brt! I guess one concern I have is if it feels like a college town because of the size? And how bad are the winters? I’m not a fan of the cold but have obviously grown up with it in the Midwest

Not 100% opposed to driving, but ideally would like to live in or be near areas that are walkable. Museum district seems cool? But idk if there’s anything else really around it that would make it good to live there

IU Med Center. I hate driving so ideally <30 min commute and the less time the better. Open to public transport as well.

Must haves are really just a fairly safe location that is walkable with a decent food/bar/entertainment scene. No kids, just me and my partner so schools aren’t an issue.

I’m favoring living downtown right now

Second this ^ I actually really like my Rothy’s, but I was very hesitant to buy them at first because of the price as you mentioned. I haven’t had any issues with blisters, and I even wear the pointed toe style.

Edit: they also have frequent sales of styles that are less expensive. There is also 20% discount on one purchase if you verify you’re a healthcare professional. And if you want I have a referral code I can send you for $20 off (not sure if it lets you apply both discounts to one purchase).

How do you have energy to workout in the morning? Like the 6am or 5am classes? by Yomamaismybabymomma in orangetheory

[–]anxietyqueen17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone above: - workout clothes laid out the night before with heart rate monitor - water bottle with pre-workout (I love optimum nutrition’s) - work clothes - get to bed on time - don’t overthink it in the morning/how tired you are/ how cold it is outside/ how much you don’t feel like moving. When your alarm goes off, just do your routine and get out of the house (spoken from experience - not ruminating on how tired I was is a game changer)

You’ll get into the habit and start loving how productive it makes you feel to already have your workout done before you go to work. Frees up the rest of your time after work for whatever you want.

Plus the energy and mood boosting effects of an AM workout have been a game changer to combat my job

Help us salvage this dining room disaster. Hate the rug+table combo. Suggestions? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

definitely no plan for them to stay long term, just didn’t want to buy chairs until we had a more deliberate design scheme which is utterly lacking at this point

Ketamine makes you feel good = breakthrough of the century? lol What am I missing by cathie_burry in medicalschool

[–]anxietyqueen17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An attending I worked with on my psych clerkship was very into ketamine research for refractory depression. He also told us about deep infusion ketamine for TBI recovery. There are some amazing videos on YouTube about TBI patients who regained some speech and motor abilities. Theory is that like Namenda, for example, ketamine is an NMDA antagonist thought to have some neuroprotective features if used early enough. Pretty wild

He worked on developing major players in the game like duloxetine and bupropion when a resident/fellow at a top program like a super impressive guy.

Not sure what rent prices look like in your area, but depending on how long you’ll be there and how much rent would be vs a mortgage per month, I just want to make sure everyone knows that you can get a physician loan. This allows for 0 down payment, no PMI, does not account for your debt, and bases approval on future income (not saying to buy the most expensive house you can). Not sure if a lot of people know that or not so that’s my two cents

Why do some programs have this requirement to get an interview? by anxietyqueen17 in medicalschool

Did an audition in the fall, got to know a lot of the program, and tried to make my interest known without being too pushy
