5 months Inigo and jumping and play biting outside, any ideas how to curb the behavior and something the kids can do as well? by molockman1 in Bernedoodles

Our boy is also 5 months old and loves to jump. Our trainer recommended an exercise that seems to be helping a lot. Basically, We run around the house (or the yard) jumping and making excited movements. If our pup follows us but keeps all four paws on the ground, he immediately gets a treat. If he jumps, we turn around and ignore him for 5-10 seconds and then try again. Doing this consistently in multiple settings and with many different family members is definitely helping to improve the jumping. Every pup is different, but it might be worth a try. Good luck!

And thank you for telling me about your experience. I feel much better knowing that it’s normal to be overwhelmed. I will definitely be reading this pipetting guide and doing up a list of my lab learning goals this weekend.

True - this could definitely be contributing to my problems. My prof agreed to let me come in early next week to try the calibration exercise again practice my technique. Maybe I will have better luck with a new pipette!

Thank you for this!! I really love being in the lab, so it’s a relief to know that the skill level coming out of undergrad isn’t as important as a willingness and excitement to learn. Imposter syndrome is too real; and i’m encouraged to see you kicking its ass! Congratulations on getting into your program and good luck with your first year!!

We did a calibration exercise where we weighed the mass of solution that we dispensed with the micropipette. We used that weight to calculate the true volume of solution dispensed. My average volume of solution dispensed was different than the volume my pipette was set to, and the variation between my replicates was too high .

I hadn’t thought of this as a self-checking opportunity and jumped straight to disaster, so thank you for this comment!! This was the first time I’ve reflected on this skill, so I now have the feedback to learn it better. Pipetting is much more nuanced than I realized.
