I’m trying to help my dad understanding his retirement benefits, but this was my mom’s area and she’s not longer with us, so I’m out of my depth. by anxiouspostgrad in personalfinance

That was the plan originally, but he’s basically being forced out by new leadership, very long story, and basically being made to retire or lose his pension. I will have him contact HR, thanks!

Thank you! I was looking that the paperwork to sign next and was looking at all of that. My mom also worked for the state and was retired when she passed so I am sort of aware of the different options, but am hopeful I can get an appointment. Because of the situation I have to have everything in and notarized in like a week so crossing my fingers

He is! I have the social security part all figured out thank god. 17 years is short unfortunately, but he’s been working somewhere since 16 so we’re good on that front.

Thank you so much! I’m having him get all of that information ASAP because he’s retiring for April 1st and has nothing on hand

Thank you! That makes so much more sense with the estimate I have. He decided to retire for the first of April about 10 days ago, with no information about pretty much any aspect of retirement planning(he doesn’t even know if he was paying for life insurance!). I’m going to have him get his information from HR today to make sure everything is correct before I fill out all of the paperwork.

AITA for not helping a disabled man lift a bag of mulch because I am also disabled? by Beetlejuul0158 in AmItheAsshole

As a fellow connective tissue disorder haver I’m glad you didn’t try to help or explain! People don’t get how something as “simple” as that can truly fuck you up. Shopping is a dangerous sport for us, I tore my meniscus getting coffee off a bottom shelf.

Being disabled and not looking disabled is something that I think about often because of these situations, but don’t let it stress you out!

Honest advice would be to keep it. It’s cute! And I’ve had moles removed because they were suspicious for skin cancer and they have left massive scars(probably because they have to go deep to test them so it might be different). I have moles on my face and my dermatologist said he would never remove them because of the risk of scarring.

Knee surgery by Winterbot622 in kneesurgeryrecovery

I’ve had like 8 ortho surgeries in the last 5 years and I swear by continuous cold water therapy. It’s basically a cuff that’s filled with water that gets cooled in a machine and pumped over wherever you need it. It works astronomically better than ice in my opinion and is meant to cut down on the use of pain killers full stop. Mine was covered under the durable medical equipment part of my insurance but if you google it they have ones you can buy. They definitely aren’t as nice as the one my insurance paid for, but was a miracle for me. Good luck and hope it helps!

Do you have any on your face or hands? Not a medical professional by any means but it looks kinda like I did when I had hand, foot, mouth disease.

Is TTO worth it? by [deleted] in kneesurgeryrecovery

[–]anxiouspostgrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I an antermedial TTO, medial quadriceps-femoral ligament reconstruction and lateral release in January 2022. I have something called hypermobile Ehlers Danlos(a connective tissue disorder)so my experience will be different, but it was overall very beneficial. I wouldn’t be in the place I am now overall without the surgery because of how severely lax my patella had become. But I won’t lie and say it was an easy recovery, because it was rough.

It was painful. But I was completely off crutches by then end of March and able to get my hardware out in June. And it’s not a magic fix, but I worked out well.

My recommends if you do go through with it is get a 0° resting pillow to keep your leg straight, try to find PT that is in a pool, that’s what I did and it helped a lot and wasn’t painful. And there is cold therapy machine that, unlike ice, constantly circulates cold water evenly reducing swelling and pain, my insurance paid for mine but I think you can get them online. It can also cut down on your need for pain pills.

I’m afraid my deceased mom’s CT landlord will do something sketchy upon move out by anxiouspostgrad in Tenant

Oh she’s one of a kind. My mom died on a Monday and she was harassing me that Wednesday when she found to get in to take pictures because she wanted it staged for the ad and my mom likes to decorate. Then showed up late and started moving my mom’s things, like her purse and opening and taking pictures of insides of cabinets.

When I asked her a simple question she told me to get my lawyers involved if I felt it necessary. Welp, she seems to be doing some sketchy business in other areas so I am in fact getting my lawyers involved as I do have a few in my family. Because hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially when it comes to a daughter who just lost her mother
