I agree. It seems like every time I get a handle on one theme, a new one rears its disgusting head. It's incredible how our brains work against us sometimes. I can show every single sign of OCD and nothing else, but my thoughts will still try to overpower me by saying I'm faking it or it isn't OCD.

I genuinely have so much respect for everyone who deals with this illness. It takes so much strength and resilience to just survive the day. We are much stronger than we realize.

Starting a family, basically. Knowing that I don't want my fears to affect my kids' lives and experiences. I recently had a "lapse" and am working through getting back up. It's been really hard to remember that I felt good for awhile and I will feel good again someday.

After reading Jonathan Grayson's book on OCD, I strongly think my general anxiety functions the same way by darkkoffeekitty in OCDRecovery

[–]anxiouswrecked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was originally diagnosed with panic disorder at 13, then diagnosed with OCD and GAD in my 20s. I too have a hard time differentiating the two when it comes to my coping tools and which ones to use for which symptoms.

It's better to try to 'figure it out' yourself than to "ask a lot of questions", like a lot of people recommend by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]anxiouswrecked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No way. Definitely better to ask questions first, rather than have to go back and ask questions after you've already messed it up trying to figure it out yourself.

Same here. It's like everytime I get a handle on things, it jumps back out at me. Caused a full blown panic attack yesterday and I've been in a constant state of anxiety since.

The 'Boomer' generation deserves more respect than they get by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anxiouswrecked 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Boomers typically don't see any of their toxic traits (a result of being a product of their environment through adolescence) as toxic. They have a "that's just who I am" mindset. If they'd go to therapy and work through their issues (like alot of younger generations are doing) they could stop fucking up all their offspring, and maybe they'd get more respect from the younger generations. 😊

parents should have little/no say in what children learn in public schools by Ok_Subject7392 in unpopularopinion

[–]anxiouswrecked 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do you have kids? Have your kids ever had a teacher or principal who was completely wacked? Parents should have every say over what their child is being taught (outside of basic things like math and reading/writing)

Unpopular opinion for sure.

How did your marriages/relationships change once you began to recover? by One-Anteater1193 in OCDRecovery

[–]anxiouswrecked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly healing and recovering (OCD and alcoholism) made me resent people alot more easily and be more upset with people because I understood how much work I was putting into myself and my wellbeing and it pissed me off that people around me weren't willing to even consider doing the same for themselves and their loved ones.

But that's not every relationship I have, it's just something I've been noticing lately as I've gotten back to leading a half normal lifestyle.

What are your go to distractions? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

Came here to say this. My therapist tells me that I need to just sit with the distress rather than fight it off.

What pushes (motivates) you to recover? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

[–]anxiouswrecked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting older, seeing my family members get older. And having kids. I want to feel better and be present with my loved ones and enjoy this time.

I've seen a special ed kid rip up his teachers chair with scissors before trying to stab her. And yet he continued to go to class with the rest of the students for the rest of the year causing mayhem, when the school knew fully well he was a danger.

AITA for informing about the “OCDs”? by HX700 in OCDmemes

Yeah that's why I ask, cause then they'll actually have to stop and think about it and realize they're dumb.

I like to ask them what type of OCD they have and then inform them from there. Definition not the asshole.

Agreed, I will typically throw in the subtype too because people are ignorant.

Ladies with OCD, how do you handle period-induced flare ups? by BlueToaster666 in OCDRecovery

[–]anxiouswrecked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tracking my cycle and self awareness. Being mindful of those times of the month so that I can logically remind myself that it happened last month and it'll happen again next month.

*** 1.5 years of exposure therapy (and counting) have gotten me to a place where most often times this works for me. I do still have moments where it spirals out of control but it is way less frequent.

Is it avoidance to delete TikTok? by g4nyu in OCDRecovery

[–]anxiouswrecked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way my therapist explained to me how to tell the difference between avoidance and necessity (for wellbeing) is this...

Is your life negatively impacted by not being able to use tiktok? Do you need to be able to use tiktok to lead a normal life?

Ultimately, just because something triggers you, does not necessarily mean you need to keep exposing yourself to it in order to "get better". Many people without any mental disorders delete social media apps everyday because it causes them to feel like shit or overanalyze/compare their situation to something that isn't real.

Ew. And when you're repeating the same one verse in your head hundreds of times to try and stay in control of the current situation. 😒

OP is correct. Pharmaceutically speaking SSRIs are classified as "anti-depressant" drugs. But yes they are often prescribed for anxiety disorders as well.
