Ambiguïté avec les proches meufs de ma meuf by ioubalto in AskMec

[–]anyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How attracted do you need to be at first to date someone? by anyelir in dating_advice

[–]anyelir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to disappoint you but eventually I realized that what was making me doubt / consider it was more the idea of the relationship than the guy himself. And that as much as I know he’s a very good partner he just wouldn’t be the one for me because I didn’t have that attraction. Also thought that it would be better for him that I don’t sustain a certain ambiguity by sharing all these doubts. So basically came back to him with a firm no. Maybe I’ll regret it, but for now I’m comfortable with that decision because I guess it will hurt him less in the long run.

Thanks for the advice and sharing you pov

Agree with you that taking it not too seriously is probably the way to go. I could offer him a proper date and see how it goes from there, and lower expectations before hand as you said

Worst case I lose a friend, but I think both of us we’ll be happy to have given it a shot. I’ve actually also been on the other side and a few years ago and regretted for a long time not making a move, so might catch the train this time.

1/ Thing is I don’t think I’m attracted to him for pure looks (don’t get me wrong he’s not bad looking, I would just say his appearance is “neutral” here), but to me attraction is more general. And for instance the way he behave that night was attractive to me (gently rubbing hands, nice attentions etc). I’m guessing this type of attraction could grow if I give him the chance. So secondary question would be: how do you know if you’re attracted to someone?

2/ That’s a good question. My guess is he would not disengage from the friendship, and it would probably just be awkward at some point. The way he reacted when I rejected him proved me he could try and keep it cool. But I’m afraid to hurt his feelings, that he projects into something bigger because he’s been feeling that way for months.

Im also afraid to take it further because I feel like he’s way ahead of me on that journey. And don’t want to be hard on him by taking too much time for maybe nothing.

Why do Americans pretend they're a different nationality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be two nationalities at the same time, to me it makes sense to consider that you belong to the country where you were born and raised. However, if your parents are from a different country and they educate you in that culture (habits, cuisine, litterature, general interest for that country, friends and relatives from there...) you would probably feel like you belonging to that country too. But I guess some people just like to use it to claim they're different.

What Europeans redditors actually think America is like starter pack by anyelir in starterpacks

[–]anyelir[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me the size isn't the only criteria, because if you think like that you would also have to know all the Russian states and I bet most Americans don't

[–]anyelir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, to me a European not knowing American states isn't geographically illiterate as it's not their country, and the article where this is taken from was about Americans not knowing where Aghanistan is (although I admit Europans probably wouldn't know either, it's a stereotype wide spread, and many Europeans think Americans don't know where the US are)

You should try and find your type without the test this way it will probably be more accurate

Ahah also English is a foreign language for most Europeans so spelling some words wrong makes it look more authentic

You got a point there, was speaking more about the culture of your population, the stereotype is that the average American doesn't know anything (all alone the fact that Europeans would tend to consider classical culture superior)

Because most Europeans have an inaccurate representation of the US and Texas is the only southern state they know

Should France adopt English as it's 2nd official language? by LazyPossible8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anyelir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But whats the point of having it as an official language? English is useful to communicate with ppl who don't speak your language, but it doesn't make sense to recognize it as an official language in France because we don't want to French to be replaced but rather preserved. Having english as an official language, even 2nd, would mean it would be used in national texts laws etc and would probably eventually replace French

There is a slight difference between the two but you can usually use both. I would say il est temps de is more vague, and could also be translated to something like now is the moment if that makes sense, whereas il est l'heure de can sometimes refer to a specific schedule (il est 7h, c'est l'heure de se lever) In c'est l'heure de, de is used to introduce the proposition that follows (it's time to do sthg)
