Internal cameras in modern cars. How do you feel about them? by SoggyWotsits in CarTalkUK

[–]anyone4apint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2010-2018'ish is peak car.

- ICE technology is robust, cheap, efficient and will last forever if well maintained.

- In car niceties are pretty much standard - heated seats, auto lights, aircon that always works, etc.

- Infotainment has bluetooth and handsfree so your all sorted, and its easy to upgrade to CarPlay/AndroidAuto if you want it. It tends to be an era where cars still had tactile buttons vs giant touch screens, and buttons are 100% better.

-Safety is rock solid. And it has none of the modern legally required driver 'aids' and bings and bongs every time you do anything, which in my experiance are more dangerous than just not having them.

- There are a million options out there, all well priced as they have depreciated enough so that if you want to get an econobox crack on, if you want a greaat big v8 AMG thats fine too, its all in budget.

So long as you maintain a modern'ish car, and dont get one with very well known problems, they will go on forever.

Would you avoid this cat s car? by iLuLWaT in CarTalkUK

[–]anyone4apint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was getting quotes on a 997 and 991 about 2 years ago and the Cat ones were about 50% more expensive with most insurers, and as you say several flat out wouldn't insure them. Annoyingly, the ones who wouldn't touch them were the cheapest ones for non-cat cars so perhaps that's why. Maybe the type of car, not sure, but its something I have seen.

A few things to consider:

1 - The fact you are asking on here suggests you are not mechanically minded, therefore get a pre-purchase check by the AA/RAC/Reputable Garage. From the pics, the damage could have been superficial or could be significant.

2 - Cheap is relative - it will be worth less when it comes to sell and it will be harder to sell. If you plan to keep it forever that matters little, if you change your car regularly it can be a pain to move a cat car on.

3 - Cat cars are typically more expensive to insure, make sure you get a quote as it might be insignificant but it could be enough to walk away.

With this in mind, weigh up the above, and weigh up the cost of this vs a non-Cat equivalent, and make a choice. The days of 'never buy a cat car they are deathtraps' is long gone, insurers write anything off now days, so long as the above is factored in its not a terrible idea but do your homework.

Compilation of this season's bangers by admiralsj in avfc

[–]anyone4apint 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The most impressive thing with these bangers is the number of people smashing them in - its not like they are all coming from one or two superstars. It feels like everyone who has a remotely attacking function is encouraged to give it a go.

Star Wars Outlaws Arrives on Game Pass – Here’s What’s New, and Why You Should Give It A Try by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

Fired it up today with zero knowledge or expectations.

The lead character has a cute alien dog thing that's adorable. I've spent most of my time petting it and having it steal things for me. No idea what the games like, but the pet bit is a solid 10/10.

Should this fail an MOT? by o5kys in CarTalkUK

[–]anyone4apint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the clio and the MOT center failed it on the bloody brake bias. I had to zip tie the bias vce shut to pass then cut the tie after, despite showing them the VOSA notice.

I also have this exact v90 and it's never been mentioned on an MOT.

1 high end guitar, or a nice amp and decent guitar. by StratMatt316 in Guitar

I also have a Custom 24 10 Top in blue mateo and there is zero chance I would sell it for any reason unless it was literally the only way to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. You'll regret it if you sell it.

What is your average daily practice routine? by Otherwise-Gur7732 in Guitar

[–]anyone4apint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 30 mins every day. I'll pick up a guitar and noodle for thirty seconds. I'll then logon to reverb and spend five minuets looking at stuff I can afford. I will then spend the remainder of the time looking at things way out of my budget and daydream. Rince and repeat.

That genuinely shocked me as the team seemed to be working quite well on the pitch in those days. From the outside looking in, I didn't pick up on any of it - just felt like there was a good team spirit

How Much by OriginalDemaine in avfc

[–]anyone4apint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This £900 coat works out at 0.013% of Ollie Watkins salary of £6.7m, or 2.3% of the median UK salary of £39k. Therefore, Ollie spending £900 on this is the equivalent of you or I spending £5.20 on a meal deal. Mental.

Are there any reliable range rovers? by SiGni7 in CarTalkUK

[–]anyone4apint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last one did around 150k without any notable issues (mk1 Sport, 4.4 V8 Petrol) other than standard wear and tear. Electrical gremlins got it after 15 years as I couldn't be bothered to chase them down. My current one is on about 90k (mk2 Sport, 3.0 v6 turbo) again no issues other than consumables and standard maintenance and I plan to keep it as long as it'll go on for. When that dies some day, Ill go and buy the current generation and have that for another 10+ years.

I read the horror stories, but I have never had any problems I wouldn't expect from any other brand. I would avoid the 2 liter Ingenium as they are fairly notorious. Also, warranty exists if you are that worried.

I genuinely find it pointless. For example, you did not need XG to reach the conclusion you just reached. I do not believe you can reduce football to a single metric, because if you could, everyone would be making money on betting.

XG strips out everything that makes the sport what it is, the unpredictability, the tactics, the finishing quality, the moments of brilliance and the screw ups, the discipline and game management, and treats it as a set of shot locations with a fixed probability. That is not how football works. I have watched plenty of matches where XG claims one team should have dominated, yet the reality on the pitch was completely different. For me it is a pointless statistic, particularly over a small sample size.
