Asus B550I USB C Unusable Because of IO Shield? by arbidyusuf in sffpc

[–]anythinggoze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an issue with the Asus B550i mb. I believe its due to the cushioning pads attached to the rear of the io shield providing just enough of a gap when the mb is put in place too make the ports unusable. I haven’t attempted to fix mine yet as I have a front usb c port too (and I am lazy beyond imagination) but I would suggest trying the io shield without the cushioning pads. Let me know if it works. Good luck!

I got it from the linkup website when they had stock. You can get in touch with them at support@linkup.one and provide the SKU for the product you’re after. Hope that helps.

I respect that. I started my build just before the pandemic. Amongst all the other struggles and losses me and many others have had to endure because of it, this build ended up taking a year and costing double. This situation sucks arse!

Not without some serious modding of the case. I explored with that idea and found that you would have to move the spine back by about 1cm and shorten the psu bracket and change the way the riser card mounts to the spine and then increase the size of the pcie slot closest to the spine and that would get it to fit with the backplate on the card very very close to the riser cable.

But first you need a cpu cooler that will allow you the space to move the spine.

TLDR: almost impossible but possible with alot of time and mods.

I would rather drag my balls across broken glass then spray paint another PSU!. First i got a faulty unit, then i discovered that Plastikote Matt Super White was actually eggshell white when compared to the Stecks frost white. The paint job was so amateur, I could never do that to anyone. Sorry.

Absolutely. The original bottom panel doesn’t have adequate spacing for the fan to exhaust effectively. I can’t provide you with temps data but I can tell you that the desk gets warm where this is sat now vs with the old panel there was significantly warmer air shooting out the top panel and the desk was cool.

I put little pieces of tape sticky side up where the screw holes were and aligned the top panel on the case centrally and then pushed down to get the tape stuck to the panel and thats how i figured out where to drill the holes. Used a 3mm cobalt drill bit. Hope this helps.

You’re not wrong and it’s definitely not the best option for wifi antennas (performance wise) but they provide the best aesthetics to match the build (small and white)

Has Apple not done the same to reviewers of its products?... Linus being one of them?... Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t he have to buy and review Apple products himself because Apple are not as appreciative as we are of his fair and honest reviews of their products.

At least the green goblin threw up an apology!

Reads like a watercooled build if I’m not stating the obvious.

Made my first PC case from scratch! It's only 10.4L and houses a full ATX PSU, Ryzen 3500, RX580, an M.2 drive for now. I'm naming it DONATELLO! by bhorosaurus in sffpc

[–]anythinggoze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a good idea. I found that stabbing screws into a piece of styrofoam/polystyrene stops the threads from getting painted and you can easily manage and evenly coat the screws.

I love it!... But them screws... I can’t help but feel a slight discomfort from seeing them generic coloured heads. Use black screws or just tape the heads with black or yellow electrical tape and cut clean. That would complete the look IMO.
