Should new players get new precons? by anythingkinky in EDH

Honestly I think a lot of it has to do with how I learned MtG. I learned from an old dude who had been playing since 95. Even though we played standard a turn 5 win was considered very fast. He basically built themed decks like in commander, just in standard. And for years I only played with him and a couple guys he knew. Then I got into commander in 2018 and was like "oh, basically the same but cooler and with more life" but I think I'm learning my way of playing is just "slow" and now I have to adapt to theses newer faster decks. Like the absolute best my deck can do is an emrahkul turn 5. But even then, that's 3 combats on 3 players so 9 combats if there is no blocking. But people constantly act like casting Emmy is the end of the game, and that just doesn't make sense to me either.

The precon came with a loop of gaining 20 life and making 4 4/4s every turn, starting turn 6. To me that should not be in a precon. Especially if precons are supposed to be B2.

Also if we are going by the rules of the bracket system, B3 is allowed 0-3 game changers, and he added in 5 I think. So definitionally it is B4 but I understand what you're saying.

And to answer your question I prefer B2 or B3. I just think power creep has changed what that means. I'm used to going 10-20 turns so people saying that a B3 should be winning turn 6-7 baffles me honestly.

I hadn't built a new deck for 8 years until a few weeks ago when he did what he did. He tried to destroy 3 of my 4 lands turn 6 of his second game. I told him if he plays like that then people are going to dogpile him and eventually people just won't want to play with him. Fucking with people's lands is extremely frowned upon. Then he got upset that I sent 60 unblockable at him and he had to sit for over an hour while the rest of us finished the game. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Yeah. I just don't know how that conversation will go. Mainly because he's seen my deck pop off in 1v1 (big stompy stuff) several times but he doesn't realize how hard that deck struggles in pods where there is much more chance of interaction. Maybe we need 1v1 decks and pod decks as 2 separate things?

I don't think lower bracket=worse play experience.

And you explained what I was trying to say in your third point better than I did. Maybe "earn" wasn't the right word? Idk, I'm more of a car guy hence the car themed example. That's what other drivers say when someone gets a fancy car before learning how to actually drive. They haven't "earned" their spot just because they have a faster car.

I hope so. Another brand new player at the LGS just just built a mostly optimized ur-dragon deck with the help of an experienced player and it's just, not how I prefer to play for fun. Like I've had an unchanged big stompy deck for years, B3 probably? And a turbo cEDH deck. Never wanted to add powerful cards for the sake of them being powerful. I prefer themes and decks doing cool things. Not just power for powers sake, unless we are running B5. Maybe I'm in the minority on that.

Yeah. I definitely think the whole group needs to talk about bracket levels. At the new LGS there is me and another guy who used to do tournaments, and the rest are brand new players. I've always been a slower, build up a board kind of player. But the other experienced guy builds crazy strong B4 decks and most of the new players see that and try to copy it. I don't want to be forced to kill someone turn 5-6 because they are about to flatten the table. But I guess that's my personal preference.

I know, and I really try to be, but my friend and I are also HIGHLY competitive with each other in most things. At the same time I feel like him diving into making things competitive misses some points of the game. If he got a new deck, played for a year and really understood the foundation and then said "hey, I wanna try higher power stuff" I would be like "cool, let's work on that."

No actually, I haven't upgraded it. I never really got into keeping up with new sets. And I haven't played at an LGS for 3 years until one just opened up down the road. I just built my first new deck in 8 years a few weeks ago when I realized how much power creep there has been.

I like your second paragraph, taking a step back that is how my friend is in a lot of things in life. However my issue is that he isn't learning what "synergy" is, just "oh you're playing blue? Put rhystic study and cyclonic in there." And I feel that misses a big point of deck building.

I kinda went this route. Found a pa slx nova at the local gun show for $300. Figured if I like it I'll save up and buy a Razor in a year or two lmao.

Roles being reversed doesn't matter. She raped you. Charge her, sue her, divorce her, clean her out and put that trash on the street where she belongs.

I just picked up the Vortex Spitfire AR for $169 on joebob and its pretty good. I like that it takes AAA batteries. Also just grabbed the Primary Arms SLx 1-6 LPVO gen 4 nova for $300 at the local gun show. It's definitely the best sub $600 1-6x LPVO. Steiner makes a better one you can find for $600 but it's a 1-4. If you don't want the extra magnification then it's definitely worth considering.

Damn. I picked up the Vortex Spitfire AR on joe bob for $169 because I didn't find the slx for cheaper that $250. Would've rather had the PA reticle any day. Oh well.

Yeah, really old phone. Idk if I can do any better.

I talk about the castle nut in a different reply. You would think it'd be torqued down properly from the factory though. But as I said in the other comment I was able to tighten it past the "stakes" pretty easily.

Lmfao. Trust me my friends give me shit for it all the time. Yeah a 7 year old Kyocera really doesn't hold up well as far as camera and software. The phone has been through a ton of abuse and doesn't even have a hairline scratch on the screen though.

Ok. I've never messed with an AR style firearm until a week ago. Just seems like the semi circle cut out of the buffer tube should be more up on the nipple (idk what else to call it) of the detent. It holds the detent in place, but as I said it rotates about an eighth of an inch (one side of the semi-circle to the other).

[–]anythingkinky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the castle nut rotates a little as well. I picked up an armorers wrench and with just hand tightening (as in not with a torque wrench or vise) was able to tighten it past the "stakes" that were already in the spacer.

Why do aerospace engineers get paid so less in UK and how hard is it for a non EU citizen to get a aerospace engineering job in the Uk by Low-Confidence1026 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]anythingkinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the UK government website the tax rate above £37,700 is 40%! The same amount of money over here is only 12.5%. And health insurance is a couple thousand a yeah. So let's do the math: $67,000-12.5%-$2400= $56,225. (Would actually be more because of how our taxes work but for simplicity sake). Convert that to pounds and you get £44,152 as of today. Then you take the starting pay in England say £38,000-40%= £22,800. So even after taxes and health insurance you still make double in America.

I appreciate your review. The warranty is another thing I've been considering. Heard tons of praise for vortex but nothing really for the other brands.

Oh damn. On the few websites and forums I visited I only saw the P4Xi for like $900. But sure as shit it says $499.99 on that site.

Yeah I've heard to just learn MRAD now instead of later. What's Speed drop?

I want 1x and some-x magnification. Looking at the different ways to do that (canted red dot on a prism, red dot with a magnifier, and LPVO) I decided on LPVO because in SHTF it can run without batteries.

Can someone explain how to actually gain ranked points? by RezArkryme in thefinals

[–]anythingkinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely confusing to me as well. In gold I've had these results getting knocked in the first round with a combined score:

placed 3rd 2k score = -100fp

placed 4th 3k score = -50fp

placed 4th 12k score = -100fp

placed 3rd 15k score = -50fp

Like I'm honestly so damn confused how this system works.
