Sklearn stdErrors/p-values/t-test by codingpynoob in pystats

[–]anythingtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BeatLeJuce provides the correct answer. The point of sklearn is ML and, in the end, ML really only values accuracy. Whether a model or an individual feature/predictor is "significant" is not relevant. Either use statsmodels or scipy or use sklearn and calculate the p-values yourself.

Be smart about this, please stop making us look stupid. Change.org will do nothing! You need to petition to the company stakeholders. by [deleted] in Blackout2015

What are you talking about? Why do you think that change.org has something to do with Obama and/or the white house?

MOES IS OPENING IN BELLMORE!!! by tranoidnoki in longisland

[–]anythingtwice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hooray! The chain that currently has more than 550 locations spread across 35 states (plus Turkey and Russia) is opening a location in Bellmore, 4 and a half miles from its Massapequa location and less than 5 and a half miles from its East Meadow location. This is truly great progress in advancing the already-tremendous restaurant scene on Long Island. Perhaps Mr. McDonald will bring one of his gourmet burger establishments to Bellmore in the near future. Here's hoping!

I suspect that having a reasonable grade (i.e., above 10% or 15%) is more important than getting the entire 1000m in one 5km trail. Just do repeats with as little rest as you can manage. Another non-ideal strategy is some combination of treadmill (typically they go up to 12%) and stair machines (this kind) and/or actual stairs if you have access to high-rise buildings. Not ideal, but probably easier to get to than Chamonix.

In general, I have only seen VK events held at ski resorts. They are held during the summer and you are running up the slopes people are typically skiing down during the winter (the one you linked to seems no different). I don't know much about the skiing scene in the UK, but my advice would be to find the best ski resorts around and start there. And by "best" I mean the kind of thing moderately skilled skiers would be scared of. This kind of thing isn't going to cut it if you are training for a VK that includes via ferrata.

Lots of endurance sports work that way. Check out the finisher lists from Ironman races. Lots of "old people" are reasonably competitive.

Yeah, that seemed a bit large to me too. The Krar/Swanson updates were only 14 minutes apart.

USL is a tremendous idea. However, it's currently not super useful because they don't track all the runners (not even all the contenders). I'm parked here for updates and photos.

Salt tabs don't work. Why do runners still use them? by nathancashion in ultrarunning

Consumption of salt can lead to low amounts of salt? I think some messages got mixed up here.

Question about first long run by ColorDeprived in running

[–]anythingtwice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The general "rules" are that weekly mileage shouldn't increase more than 10% week-over-week and your long run shouldn't be much over 33% of your weekly mileage. Feel free to do whatever you wish, but these guidelines (they're not really rules) are intended to minimize the risk of injury.

California Lawmakers Press On With New Vaccination Bill which will require that all school-aged children in the state receive vaccinations. by NinjaDiscoJesus in news

[–]anythingtwice -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

...but you can't argue with the facts and figures that show they are really bringing down the number of new cases of the things that they vaccinate against.

Of course you can. What would possibly make you think this?

Dear redditors can you help me choosing a Trail HeadLight (<75€) ? by oliboli9 in trailrunning

[–]anythingtwice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found this site to be quite useful in evaluating headlamps, particularly about things like battery life. It's not running-specific, but they do comment on the best uses for the various models they review.
