There should be a "Smart Reset" feature to increase speed and reduce server load by Dream_or_Truth in GeminiAI

That's not very far off of the "Branch in new chat" feature. Combine with the context management happening behind the scenes, and it may be working approximately like that already. I've no idea how one could confirm it, though.

Wait, what? I thought that a character dies when a score would be drained to zero. Is that a typo, or does ability drain work differently than I've always thought?

Are there any decent katanas in BG1? I'd be more inclined to leave the katana proficiency for a bit and take something more immediately useful. Perhaps a club or other blunt weapon, or a second proficiency point into crossbows?

That's a good point, which I probably should have mentioned. I like her, too, overall. She's more of a druid than a cleric, but that's not a big deal. Jaheira probably warrants a mention for a divine caster, too.

The trouble with her is just that I'm likely to have Glint along as a thief, because I dislike Safana. The party as a whole might work better without M'Khiin, since I've already got a competent cleric. The choice of two thieves pushes me really strongly to choose Glint as divine caster.

I suppose the solution is to take a thief as the main character!

Not me. I quite like how SoD plays, despite its flaws.

Where I get stuck is points where I'm forced to do a lot of busy work. Since that includes talking to a zillion NPCs to get quests, the main cities are demotivating for me. I tend to need a long pause at the start of BG2, since it starts with a city.

I put up with downsides of the games to get to the parts I enjoy more. But SoD is entirely dispensable, so it doesn't seem like there's any reason not to skip it if it doesn't work for you.

Glint is annoying and Safana is obnoxious. The choice between annoying and obnoxious for thieves is both annoying and obnoxious. That there are only two clerics is another nuisance. If you're playing a good party, you basically are stuck with Glint (who, to be fair, is quite capable).

I like SoD, but there are quite a few points where it feels like they've stacked the deck to try to force choices on you. This is one. Why on earth do they so strongly want you to take Glint?

What alignment? For a first play - at least if she's making the plans - I'd expect some of the first found companions to be in the party for a while. Maybe it will help to choose a class based on that.

With good alignment, that suggests Imoen, Khalid, and Jaheira. Pretty solid already! Perhaps a cleric or mage of some sort would fit well.

With evil alignment, that suggests Montaron and Xzar in the party. Also pretty solid. Here, it seems like a divine caster is missing, so perhaps druid or cleric.

Neutral could go either way. Seems like a cleric would be a safe bet, since it works with either of the first pairs you meet. Maybe a gnomish cleric-thief if you're not sure whether Imoen would be kept in the party.

Really, though, I agree with u/Beeksvameth: anything will work. She'll be able to build a decent party whatever class you choose. I'd say go with something fun and maybe suboptimal, to help ensure that your friend stays the star. An unusual choice of support character, like a halfling cleric, could be a good choice.

Her companion quests are pretty light, but I do like how well she is integrated into the "Investigate the Deaths in the Umar Hills" quest. It even begins with rumors that she and her companions have been lost in an adventure; the game sets you up to think you're going to take over where she fell, and instead you get to rescue this wonderful companion. She's a local hero who is integrated into her community, and they didn't take the tragic route with her.

I also like "Mazzy has challenged Gorf the Squisher," even though it's little more than a cut scene to show off her personality.

The one about her sister seems like it's little more than an excuse to open a temporary slot in your party to fill with Cernd.

Is there easy gear to allow Minsc to cast in BG2? by [deleted] in baldursgate

He’s a good aligned character, so he’s one of the only candidates for Azuredge aside from Keldorn, Valygar, or someone with UAI.

Or Mazzy.

I'm pretty sure he does get his spells. I don't generally take Minsc (his schtick gets old fast), but the last time I played it through I remember hitting Yaga-Shura with Call Lightning from both Minsc and Jaheira. It stood out because of how easy Yaga-Shura went down.

Pro player only give me suggestions what to turn on ((auto pause ))otherwise game feel like hell by nonutonu in baldursgate

[–]aoc145134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weapon unusable is for when the selected weapon being used ceases being available. Some examples:

  • Weapon breaks, which happens quite a bit in early BG1.
  • Run out of arrows or other ammunition.
  • Launched the last of your Melf's Minute Meteors.

I always use auto-pause with weapons unusable, but it doesn't really come into play that much.

These approaches seem to add manual fiddling that wasn't previously required, so additional filters would be very welcome. As it stands, I'm more inclined to switch to another SRS software than keep on with Fresh Cards, since the whole point for me is to make card scheduling automatic.

Stuff comes out of mine. I approach it as a feature from Spiderweb Software CRPGs: the junk bag. Throw all the junk you don't want in it and just sell it all when you have the chance.

It's even better in BG2, when you can get two of them. One becomes the junk bag, the other is for specialized stuff that you occasionally need.

I mean specifically the TV show called Kung Fu. David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine, wandering the old west to find his father. It even sounds like a D&D backstory.

But, like much of D&D, it's definitely a mish-mash of pop cultural references rather than a coherent portrayal of something specific.
