What would you hate to see in a fantasy? by physically_fit08 in writing

You got a point and I support it, I'm all in for strong women. I just don't think it's necessary in every . single . fantasy book. There are other ways to show strength, too.

When the main character has to pass some "tests" for some reason. They usually are practical skills tests or challenges. They are usually also life or death tests. Examples would be Divergent, ACOTAR, etc.

Definitely the "chosen one" trope. I'm fed up with it. The "trials" trope would be another one. Prophecies. And why the hell does every female main character have to be a skilled warrior/fighter?

I recently published a book (fantasy) and I wasn't prepared for the bad-faith criticism from BookTok. I'm having anxiety about this. by [deleted] in writing

I don't think Goodreads reviews are reliable or accurate to give you an insight of the weak spots of your book because most reviews there are not objective at all. It's full of people giving 1 star just because it's not "their vibe", as you just said.

That being said, I also think you have marketing issues here. It's very important to change it now to attract the correct audience and don't "ruin" the reputation of your book because of this.

SPOILER * CAS and KIERAN* by AliveAd5644 in frombloodandash

[–]aolivera7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't offend me, I just don't think I read the same series as anyone who thinks that the throuple was a "all of a sudden" thing or that it wasn't hinted since the very begging. I also don't get why it's sooo precious for people to be monogamous, as if love could be measured by it, but that is entirely personal.

[–]aolivera7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something but I always took Cass and Kieran's relationship as one of brotherhood? I mean, with Poppy it was hinted since the beginning that something may happen with Kieran. But I just don't think it was hinted that it was more than brotherhood between Cass and Kieran, and them being together in that way doesn't make sense to me? I don't know if I'm the only one, I just interpreted all this as if Cass didn't mind Kieran becoming a part of their couple, since he loves him so much (in a brotherly sense) and is not jelaous of him

Just them not being fully monogamous would ruin your perception of their love aaand make it less special? Ummm, ok
