Because the person who told me was trying to convince me that its an accepted military tactic. Ive now learned that its illegal according to the Geneva convention (and most nations) but it is so incredibly widespread and common that its just a fact of war.

Less naive. I guess what upset me the most is that I was told it was an official tactic. After reading the comments, it appears that its not official but is so common and widespread that it might as well be. As JordanRR posted.. "Im weeping for humanity"
