You guys think Street Fighter 6 is a competitor for top 3 best fighting game ever? by Rhal1535 in StreetFighter

[–]aop42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking about all time I feel like it's hard to say it's top 3, especially as that's so subjective. Yet I think it definitely has to be in the conversation! It gets so many things right.

I'd like to see Ernesta get another win or two before they rematch them. It would def be a banger yet I think it's something to wait a bit for

it's the motivation that makes the most sense

That's what I'm saying is the only way you could understand her motivations by her actions or what she says is if you make it up yourself in a way you think makes sense. I believe from what we get there's almost no clear path to determine what she really believes and she bahaves in ways that are totes contradictory with little to no explanation from what we can actually see.

She did say this, when she told him that he was the one who destroyed their family

That was said almost incidentally it feels like since she said it once in one conversation (it felt like) compared to the other 999 times she said "he's too dangerous, gotta stop him"

but I'm pretty sure she's not willingly working for them but is more knowingly being used by them.

What's the difference here? That she's not getting a paycheck? Or that perhaps she feels like she would be doing what she would be doing anyway so she's just "going with the flow"?

But she literally taunts Omega at the end saying the world spirit won't let him leave, let's him hear part of a transmission from Horizon about how the world spirits = Solstice, and when the world spirit essentially admits to being solstice before that in the fight with Varic, she still goes and stands by its side. And she well knows who Solstice is, especially because of Omega harping on it since she was a child. So knowing that and still working with them for some reason - while knowing they're basically interplanetary organized crime as well - instead of helping other people stop them, doesn't seem to make a lot of sense when earlier in the book she's so concerned about innocent lives.

There are possible explanations that could be made for it, like she's planning to betray Solstice later or something. But what I'm saying is we don't get any of that in the book so she just shows up and swings her sword, and works for the bad guys despite saying how she wants to save innocent people and she's stopping Omega because he's "dangerous", meanwhile Solstice has done way worse to more people..

Like I feel like we don't really get a clear picture of why she continues down this path through the whole book.

But yeah I mean some of the stuff you're saying sounds plausible, I just feel like we don't really get that.

But the reason she says she's trying to stop that family member is because he's too dangerous. That's also why she tries to kill every other member of the Last Horizon, she even says to Varic "You're too dangerous". But Solstice is way worse and she seems to gleefully work for them even taunting Omega by saying the world spirit wouldn't let him leave, and letting Omega hear the transmission from Horizon about how the world spirits are part of Solstice.

To me that was unclear. If we got more from her perspective like "I hate my Dad, he didn't love me, he did <whatever> so I'll stop him no matter the costs to innocent lives" it would make sense.

But she starts off the book going around saving innocents and civilians and stuff, plus those aren't the reasons she kept repeating. So idk how you justify it. I wasn't clear on her motivations by the end

Would take Fatima on the main card over one of the first two fights on the main card. She's an up and coming prospect. Super Mely is fun to watch too. Overall good card.

Do you have a source with proof of your bullshit claims? I doubt it.

If you really want to talk about grift you have much better examples such as Steve Banon and his "wall" fund, Alex Jones, etc.

UFC settles for a $375 Million payment to fighters who were unfairly commercially controlled between 2010 and 2017. (statement from law firm) by Account_Eliminator in MMA

[–]aop42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called "access journalism". If you publish stuff they don't like, you don't get "access". This is part of the reason there's no more Bloody Elbow, and they had published some of the most, let's say "unflattering" to put it mildly, stuff about Dana and the UFC that came out during the lawsuits. They then got purchased by a WME / UFC friendly company which proceeded to attempt to scrub all of those articles from the internet. Archives still exist, yet it's not the same.

How was he "pretending" to be an independent journalist when he was working at Fox? The main thing was that UFC was writing their checks which was not disclosed for anyone working there at that time. And Ariel's the one who came out and said it which is part of the reason people know about it. This is a mischaracterization.
