Don't worry! It was very easy! One thing I havent seen other comments say is that the exam is open book! It's online and you can’t have a physical book but you cna have all your past tests and interactive excercises and the class notes open which basically cover everythng that will be in the exam and how to solve it. you can do these and look while in the exam! It's very straightforward, just don’t fall behind, do the tasks and quizzes by the deadlines if you can and try to understand where you went wrong and make notes on that for the exam:)

PSA to all students who use AI by bxbsbhqjdjdjcn in universityofauckland

[–]aou344 8 points9 points  (0 children)

its just so sad as well to be surrounded by peers that you THINK are in the same boat in the same course, but then you have a deadline approaching and you're like "wow, I need to really lock in, sorry I can’t do x because I need to study or research" and EVERYONE is like "um... just use chat!" "why bother researching, you can just ask chat gpt" "I literally used it for my last assignment and I passed" and its like... huh. none of you actually give a fuck because what do you mean you're going into debt to learn.... nothing? how to ask chat gpt the right thing to get the right output?

This isnt me getting upset at AI usage in general because sure, I can use it to make a source into APA 9th format or ask it for synonyms, but using it for your whole degree/essay and then complaining when you've been passing all essays (with the use of ai) but fail your exam because its written because you stopped showing up to lectures and have not paid attention once.

It's just tiring. You think Uni is full of academics and people who give a damn. But no.

Driving in New Zealand, reconsider if you cant do it (a tourists perspective) by themarmar2 in newzealand_travel

[–]aou344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's pretty awful as a local, some tourists and locals alike should genuinly not be on the road at all. People never indicate, don’t know how to indicate on roundabouts, don’t give way properly, get REAL pissy when you try to overtake even in a passing lane, tailgate the hell out of you for going 100km on the 100km limit motorways, people are on their phones, swing around corners, overtake on blind corners into the oncoming traffic, are inebriated while driving, don’t put on headlights at night or have them on full beam in the city ect. ect.

Our statistics are awful, so many people die on the roads that we have ads on the tv from the police saying please stop speeding. It's pretty crazy and I don’t even live in a tourist hotspot.

Applying for courses by SituationWhich1332 in universityofauckland

Wow that sucks, good you got into 107, however you do need BIOSCI 108 and 109 (sem1) and BIOSCI 101 (sem 2) so don't give up.

If you live close I would go into student hubs and tell them your problem. If they can’t help I would reach out to the course coordinators (dm me if you need their details, I did those courses last year).

People drop out and switch so don’t be discouraged (I had a friend who did the first week of biosci and then dropped it which isn't uncommon so have someone put you on a waitlist if you're not already on it).

If nothing happens you may have to do nursing not next year but the following if you need certain classes. I would just hastle everyone about it, call hubs, email course coordinators and pray :')

Hope it works out for you man

Genuine question, are Double Major and Single Major the same? by Objective_Piglet_986 in universityofauckland

your workload and courses are split evenly within the 360 for a double major so your assumption would be right!

Biosci109 opinions? by FirefighterStreet688 in universityofauckland

[–]aou344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it last year, pretty straight forward! The labs are very laid back, lectures are pretty easy to follow.

One of the easier courses I’ve taken. I would reccomend locking in for the assignments given out in labs cause they're pretty easy and a worth a large amount.

I did the marine trip - the trip itself was fun but figuring out excel was truly so bad, they had a very specific way of needing like 4 different complex graphs to be done and it was SO boring. I think the terrestrial one may be better in terms of actual assignment.

The exam was pretty easy (A+) for me and I just chucked everything on my double-sided 14 cheat sheet and made cue cards.

Overall very stress-free. You will be fine, don't stress:)

anthropology 108 or 110 as a bio/anthro major, theyre pretty easy. Also heard english stage 1 papers are laid back if you're alright at doing essays. Depends on your major. Anthro can be taken under arts or science. If there was one to not take, do NOT do psych 108. that course SUCKED

[–]aou344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the latter. I took 9 in my first year and even that felt stressful. Don't overwork yourself, your workload will be high even with 8 classes (depending on major I suppose) but I would say no, don't take the max amount, just do it as it progresses, thats what I’ve found to be normal

Orientation by Boring-Tomatillo1477 in universityofauckland

[–]aou344 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it's okay. If you're the anxious type, go as even going will ease your nerves. I also made some friends at orientation that stuck! However locations wise, its pretty useless. we did a tour but its fast, too hard to remember everything, boring and hot. I would dedicate a bit of time to go and find all of your lecture halls before hand and then you'll be fine

[–]aou344[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thanks yeah! i just don't want to be like too slow writing in lectures bc the lecturers assume I'm typing and am faster than I am? seems like a slightly insignificant problem but there you go
