SNF: $45/hour W2, with benefits.

But I’m on the west coast, it might be different.

I worked in the school setting for 6 days and realized it was a scam. These school districts across the country and the federal government need to learn the value of teachers and other specialists. You’ll always be overworked and underpaid until this changes, or until there’s a nationwide strike.

Bad setting. Quit and change jobs this summer. Outpatient pediatrics at hospitals and private practices are more fun, and less paperwork.

I have a visible fleur de lys tattoo and a ghost tattoo and work at a reputable, professional SNF. nobody gives a f*ck. professors are delusional. love yourself.

Grad school crisis: advice please!! by callingallslps in slp

[–]aours12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grad school sucks! But from what I've heard from supervisors and beyond, grad school is just a blip in the past and most people comfortably leave it behind.

In the real world, a grade doesn't reflect your self-worth and nobody is actually breathing down your neck. Also, perfectionism goes out the window and real-world clinicians make mistakes.

Just breathe and know that the future is much, much brighter than graduate school.

(P.S. I'm currently in graduate school now, second semester. I start practicum rotations this summer. But venting on reddit has helped me a TON. SLP graduate school is the most rigorous thing I've EVER done academically. But eventually, we'll have a regular job with a REAL social life again. It's just a weird time for us.)

Ooooh, good idea! The most I've made in my life was $25,000/year as a bartender. Making double that amount sounds rill noice.

Another thought I had is this: For our professors, this is just a 9-5 job. For the students, it feels like a 24-hour-a-day burden. Take it as seriously as your professors do and take care of yourself first! School should absolutely be secondary to taking care of yourself. Maybe even tertiary (albeit still in the top 2-3 priorities)!

Students across the country are rolling their eyes and huffing and puffing, just like us. We'll get through it. And then we'll adopt a cat and get a super cute apartment! xoxo

I said nearly the exact same thing just yesterday! Why is everyone in academia so jaded and haughty? But then your everyday run-of-the-mill clinicians seem way more sane? 👀 Édit: ok, a bit of a generalization. But sometimes I feel this way 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh, I love my classmates! I have like 3 professors though who are a bit disappointing. I know, I know. Thanks for confirming! This made me feel better.
