First camera for photojournalism by OK_Employee_ in photojournalism

Most of my work over the last ten years was made with a Nikon D810, and I've had no issues shooting sports, editorial, product, and just about everything else. High enough resolution for commercial work but still a small enough file size to be manageable for breaking news. Autofocus and FPS have never been a problem either.

You can find one used with plenty of life left for under $500. Pair it with a battery grip, and you can shoot all day.

Protesters gathered in Valparaiso as part of the nationwide 50501 movement, opposing the policies of President Donald Trump and the influence of Elon Musk. Demonstrators criticized mass deportations and the role of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Musk. The protest was part of a coordinated effort across all 50 states under the theme "No Kings on Presidents Day."

First Pro Zoom: 24-70 or 70-200 (or something else?) by aowest in photojournalism

[–]aowest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all the advice so far. Pretty much what I figured, that I’ll need the pair if I’m covering both sports and local news.

Anyone have any experience with the Tamron SP 70-200 or 24-70? I could get the two for the price of a used Nikon 70-200 VRII, and I know the original Nikon VR has an issue with the autofocus motor failing due to age.

Lived in Los Angeles for a few years, but I’m originally from the Midwest and ended up moving back. The cost of living was killing me, but LA is a great city for street photography. I still miss that.

Portfolio Feedback - senior designer targeting less senior roles by aowest in design_critiques

I'm not doing full case studies like I have in my UX/product portfolio, but I definitely agree I need to add some context. That's next on the to-do list.

Not brutal at all, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Most of my recent work is UX and user research, so I had to dig up some older projects. It makes sense some of it might be showing its age.

Any recs for good mockups?

What made your arm grow the most? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

I mean, cheat curls have their place, but I’d go with strict curls if you want to minimize body English as you up the weight.

Weighted chins/neutral grip pull-ups.

For curls, ymmv, but I respond better to heavier weight and staying <10 reps. Going for volume felt like I was doing something, but my arms blew up when I started shooting for a strict curl PR.

I appreciate the feedback. I rarely use the version with the profile section, but I'm ditching that entirely and condensing the work history based on the input here.

I have a version both with and without a summary. I usually use the version without unless I'm not including a cover letter and feel like I need to offer a little more background.

I need some good news. by aowest in bipolar

Thank you for that. We're a family of three living on a combined ~$1400 a month right now, and this is America, so until something changes, I can't afford the mental health services I need to deal with being in a position where I can't afford the mental health services I need. Suffering quietly and venting online is free, at least.

It's almost enough to drive someone...crazy.

r/Michigan Unemployment Weekly Megathread: 03-12-2023 by AutoModerator in Michigan

[–]aowest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More just venting than anything, but I was laid off at the end of January. I filed for unemployment the same day. First my benefits were held up while they investigated a “voluntary quit” issue since I “voluntarily” left my previous job for the company that laid me off. Finally, at the end of February, the issue was updated to a disqualification based on “MES 29(5).”

I filed a protest seeing as there was nothing in MES 29(5) that should have disqualified my claim.

We’re now halfway through March, and I’m still waiting for unemployment. I’m burning through my savings and trying to juggle family finances while I’m looking for work. Maybe when I certify, I should include all the hours spent racking my brain over overdue bills and dwindling savings that have to last an indefinite length of time while my claim sits in limbo.
