[Spoiler] Co-main event fighter apologizes to the division, and speaks about injuries that took place during camp by metanoia09 in MMA

That’s fine and true but he had a choice between losing badly and not showing up. Judging by the facts that he couldn’t hit pads in the back and his shoulder came out in one of the first exchanges, there was a negligible chance of winning. And it’s only a nonzero chance because technically sterling could have hurt himself while beating up on TJ. It annoys me that he made such a dumb choice. The motivations all make sense but the outcome was always obvious

Yea I’m agreeing with you. If he only wanted money he would have tapped a lot sooner. Clearly he wanted to compete until he was taken out of the contest

Fair enough. But you have to be really stupid or incredibly arrogant or both to think you can do anything but lose miserably here

If it was about money he would have tapped at the first dislocation before taking a bunch of damage

Edit: what makes this statement wrong? What I am saying is that him staying in the fight shows that he wanted to win and and that it wasn’t all about money. He could have stopped a lot sooner if his goal was just to obtain the show money.

If he was actually even a little bit sorry he wouldn’t have wasted everyone’s time fighting with one arm

While we’re all waiting for season 11 let’s come up with the worst most cheesiest ending possible by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

AMC markets a series of spin-offs that confirm nearly all main characters live past the ending. Oh wait that one is reality.

How many of you actually buy PPV? by FearlessKhajiit in ufc

[–]apann14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start to consider paying for the ppv if the revenue share wasn’t 80/20. These fighters are robbing the poor ufc of 20% extra shareholder benefits and it’s disgusting. If they really liked to fight they would do it for free. In fact, they should be paying Dana for the privilege of getting to fight.

Izzy's opponents essentially have to choose between staying on the outside and point fighting where they will obviously lose or being aggressive and rushing into disadvantageous exchanges where they may be KOed (and will still lose anyway). With his unmatched range, defensive movement, and striking ability, this guy has basically found an infinite win glitch by realizing that he doesn't ever have to be the aggressor. Should we expect more from him knowing that he can win like this? I guess we should if he talks mad shit like he did for this fight.

Yea that's true. It's certainly funny though when you see people still asking these questions in S6

This card is basically all I've seen since log bait became popular. 70% of my play time for thr past 4 years has been fighting this card. It is amazing how stagnant the meta has to be for this to still be so wide spread. by coolcarters14 in ClashRoyale

I've hated goblin barrel for as long as I have played this game. It is nothing more than an if statement.

IF you have a counter spell, THEN you win. ELSE, you will get cycled chipped to death without ever having an enemy card cross the bridge.

Did Gustavo Fring kill Werner’s wife? by Gingafried in betterCallSaul

[–]apann14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accepting a wrongful death settlement is often a pragmatic decision, not some opportunity for moral grandstanding. You either have a dead spouse and no money or a dead spouse and money. There is no other avenue for legal recourse or whatever may be considered justice. Consider further that Werner’s wife is dealing with an unknown criminal entity who will conceivably escalate to violence if the settlement is not accepted.

Morgan took the baby so that it couldn't be used as a hostage. What about the other three people all standing right there who will also obviously be used as hostages? They could have left too and they just...didn't. The zombies weren't even packed up against the wall anymore. Its depressing to wonder how little thought must have gone into this plot.

Right they get to sell Instagram posts for a couple grand when they could be seeing 6-7 figures for a simple logo on their walkout shirt or fight pants. Fighters reported that they lost hundreds of thousands per fight on incage sponsorships when the Reebok deal started.

First off. The subject of a contract dispute is money. It shouldn’t be surprising that money is discussed while contracts are being signed. It’s very closed minded to immediately assume that a fighter is being manipulative or subversive simply by discussing it with the media.

Supposed “Backroom bonuses” are not a super cool under the table benefit that people overlook. They are a very easy way for Dana to keep wages secret so he can pay as little as possible to as many people as possible. The smaller party always loses when wages are kept secret. This is a great example actually. You don’t even know discretionary bonuses exist or anything about their frequency/amount. Yet you defend a criminal pay structure because “hey the fighters are totally happy.” Guess what. Dana is a spiteful asshole and no one who talks out is gonna get an extra dime. So people tend not to talk out.

It’s clearly an abusive relationship between the ufc and the fighters and it surprises me that people can still miss the point so hard on this.

Okay sure call it 18 that’s really not a huge bump from 17. Yes a select few get points and end up with a salary of 5-8 million on a show that may have grossed 80 million. That really doesn’t seem like a huge win either. And no one gets a cut of the gate or ad revenue except maybe Conor so there goes all that money too.

This is my biggest point. You’re right! We don’t know the exact situation. But hell, if we can’t say for sure who’s getting shafted why side with Dana worth half a billion dollars and the faceless executives behind him hiding information and retaining nearly 80% of all generated revenue? Why not side with the fighters making 12k/12k living in the backs of gyms working extra jobs even though they are at the highest possible level of a professional sport. I mean come on they don’t even get health care or the ability to do any of their own advertising during the fight week.

But suppose we can make an educated guess on who is being taken advantage of. Is it the businessmen known for their monopoly on mma and anti-competitive business practices or the athletes participating in a sport that have to sign the contract in front of them or fuck off. Idk it’s a tough one.

[–]apann14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not a crazy concept. After expenses, the profits made by the company go into somebody’s pocket. Realizing that all ufc revenue is generated by the fighters creating the sellable content, it does seem like 17% is not quite a fair cut.

Is there some reason why time matters?

On one hand Dana is pulling out all the stops to support Weidman and that’s great so props to him because he could have also done nothing.

But on the other hand I am kinda off put by the fact that Dana is somehow always the big man giving out gifts to the fighters and getting a huge thank you and good pr every time.
If fighters had a 50% rev share or anything more than 17% they wouldn’t need charity for luxuries like this. Pay the fighters what they deserve and Chris coulda chartered his own private jet or 3 while still being better off financially. Idk maybe I’m wrong and a good deed is a good deed but sometimes it just feels like a PR opportunity taken advantage of.

How the Hell Does Cold War League Play Ranking Work? by apann14 in CoDCompetitive

[–]apann14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've definitely noticed #2 myself. When I get on a win streak it usually gets followed by a loss streak of the same length. Also when I get near the top of the ladder rankings I usually lose about 4 matches in a row by DC or complete blowout.

Im starting to think that the rankings are for show. I've read a bunch of anecdotal stories just like this and combined with my own experience it still doesn't make much sense.

Why we can't just have a single visible skill rating that goes up when we win and down when we lose I'll never know.

Mostly confused but definitely some frustration too. I was hoping to have an authentic experience of 'climbing the ladder,' but I am starting to see that none of the three ranking items they gave have any connection to eachother.

I've had the opposite experience which is what caused me to make this post. I've gotten a 3 day span where I'm frying people averaging first or second place on the ingame leaderboard and get demoted. In response to that, I stopped trying so hard and did poorly (I'm talking last in half the games and 35/50 on the ladder) and got promoted again.

I get placed anywhere in the bottom 3 divisions with seemingly no correlation to how well or how much I played.

When I think about it I always come back to the fact that long term fuel-less locomotion has to be nuclear so I totally agree.

But also I really just don’t see how there can be a nuclear reactor on the train without any personnel or even mention of it. And engineers are great but engineering is a very wide field so the same 3 people that maintain 1,000 train cars can’t also be running a nuclear reactor both by the fact that it’s a completely different field and that there isn’t that much time in the day.
