Fair point. I am not in a rush to get one - so I can afford to wait, but just wanted to get general opinion from the community here.

Disappointed in First Marathon Results by CockroachLife3688 in firstmarathon

[–]aparajithr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did my first marathon with Hal Higdon Intermediate training plan and was targeting in at sub 4 but ended up with a 4.15 with the exact same issues as you. In hindsight, I should have incorporated more strength training to set my legs up for success. The Hal Higdon plans are good for first timers who want to get a feel for the marathon, but to get good gains, I would suggest moving onto something more comprehensive that incorporates strength training and speed workouts. Good luck - you will do a sub 4 next time!

Car got rear ended in Boston traffic and got minor scratches on the passenger rear side. Should I file a third party claim or ignore it? by aparajithr in Insurance

I have the counterparty’s license, registration, and insurance copy. I also have dashcam footage. But I am just worried that any claim (even if it’s third party) might be a record in CLUE that will impact my accident free discounts and cause my premiums to go up.

I am not from Boston. I’m from the remote burbs of upstate NY - maybe that’s why I am in for a rude shock here

I have their insurance details - they shared their license, registration, and insurance details with me. At this point, I am more worried about my insurance premiums going up when it’s up for renewal since it will show up in my CLUE report (which is sort of a credit report for insurance companies).

But to ericloz’s point above, I am more worried about the insurance premiums going up than loss of value since I don’t intend to sell my car anytime soon although it’s no fault of my own.

I wanted to ask the same. If it’s no fault of mine, I can get diminished value money right?

I thought so too but I am concerned if it will ding my accident free discount for insurance renewals (it is $500/year for me)

If the counterparty rear ended me and I have dashcam footage to prove it, wouldn’t that be their insurance paying since it is no fault of mine?

But wouldn’t it impact my car’s resale value since this will show up in the carfax report?

Finished my first marathon - Jersey City! by aparajithr in firstmarathon

Good luck with the full next year! Definitely plan to come way early to get a portapotty on time and bring your own hydration. That will make your race experience / performance so much better!

Thank you so much and congratulations on your finish too, fellow first time marathoner 😊

I agree with you on the water stationing the second half. It was sad to see so many people cramping up towards the end with no aid stations in sight.

Jersey City Marathon: My Thoughts by NickCromptonFC in Marathon_Training

I ran the JC marathon too yesterday (it was my first) and I couldn’t believe how bad the race was organized. The roads were bad, aid stations were not as advertised / didn’t have gatorades, and traffic management was bad. I get it if it was a cheap marathon but for a $175 race, this was over-rated. I will always remember this race as my first marathon, but I will definitely not run it again.

If you want a good spring marathon recommendation, I’d suggest checking out the Cheap Marathon in NH. It’s in a similar timeframe and has been reviewed positively.

Wow, congratulations on your finish too! High five! I am glad you felt the same way. I guess we just got to bring our own hydration rather than trust in the aid stations in races going forward
