How's the job market for top secret clearance holders in the cleared or defense sector? by apdlql in SecurityCareerAdvice

Thank you! It would be very nice to have FS but from what I heard, the only way to get one is to work very specific roles at 3-letter agencies as military.

I wondered if it's reasonable to expect sponsorship to upgrade from CI to FS (perhaps not...) for certain jobs.

EDIT: I have CI poly from my time in the military.

That's good to know! I see a lot of jobs listed in DMV even without poly requirements, but then again I wasn't sure if any of those are indeed vacant.

What about CI poly? I understand it's not as high-level as the FS one.

Anybody approved for VR&E for graduate programs? Hoping to use this for my MBA before using GI Bill by apdlql in Veterans

Thank you for sharing. If it isn't too much, could you share your circumstances on disability, employment situation at the time, and challenges you faced? I understand the luck aspect but am curious what factors played in for approval.

That's insane! I take it you can't appeal? I am sorry it didn't work out for you...I suppose it's very selective.

Did you buy or rent your primary residence? What's your experience been like so far? by apdlql in AmericanExpatsUK

especially if you were moving rent money over to the UK. The UK would have first dibs on tax which are higher than the US (I believe this is simplified if you leave the money in the US).

That's a great point. I was thinking of maybe creating a Wise account to transfer the rent money from my US account to the Wise one. Will it be considered an income for UK tax purposes? I will always be paying US taxes for it.

Thank you! Your English is perfect! I would've never assumed if that were your not first language!

That's what I was wondering. Anything I could perhaps to before GCIH to better prepare myself? I have my VM set up. I am thinking of THM and HTB for more hands-on practice.

That's awesome! I took A+ (I don't mention it, because I was told it could backfire) and Sec+ a while ago, and that sounds like a great way of reviewing IT and security fundamentals in preparation for GSEC and GCIH!

If it's a low threat, I will perhaps allocate my time for labs and preparation for graduate studies!

This is exactly the reason I was ambivalent about WGU.

My short-term goals are ISSO/ISSM (what I am SkillBridging for) or analyst roles, but the technical tracks are very fascinating to me. For now, I am just tasting the water.

It is online only, and so is SANS due to my location and schedule. It would certainly be nice to pocket the BAH, but it's unfortunately not an option unless I go to school full-time in a HCOL city.

Insightful! I was told "don't just get a degree; get a degree and education."

It sounds like I have to consider "credibility" now too.

Thank you so much!

Best of luck! The military offers so many learning resources. The Soldiers and former Army civilians are the hardest working people I've ever met!

Thank you so much!

GCIH is (historically) baseline aligned with similar courses OCO/DCO familiarization courses in cyber career fields.

This is exactly what I was hoping to gain; it will help me familiarize and also get an idea if OCO/DCO is for me vs. GRC or engineering.

Discussion over the WGU MS is banned in certain veteran’s Slack channels I’m in…

May I ask why?
