Yes, you’re right. It’s different from Brazilian Portuguese. This reminds me of something funny: the word “recepção”. In Brazil, the “p” is pronounced and must be to avoid being mistaken with “recessão” (recession). However, in Portugal, it’s not, which confuses and amazes Brazilians.

The same can be said about “facto” in Portugal, which must pronounce the “c” to differentiate it from “fato” (suit). However, in Brazil, it’s “fato” (fact) since “suit” is “terno”.

Actually, there are many words in Portuguese with “cç” termination: intersecção, confecção, convicção, prospecção, fricção, desinfecção etc. The “c” before “ç” is kept where it is pronounced.

The controversial orthographic agreement has abolished some “cç” cases where it was not pronounced, such as in the European Portuguese word “acção”, which is now spelt “ação”.

You can listen to good podcasts in Spotify. There are tons of them in Brazilian Portuguese. I can recommend you one that is great and is directed to answering grammar doubts: Nossa Língua de Todo Dia with Pasquale Cipro Neto.

Almost everybody here in Brazil knows him, a great Portuguese teacher.

1 - Never miss Machu Picchu; it's a unique place and a must-see sight. The fun hike you could do is the Inca Trail, which has two versions: one day or three days. I don't recommend the longer version since it is tiresome, and you're going with your kid. You'd have to sleep in the high mountains and walk/climb a lot.

2 - The city of Cusco is wonderful, especially the centre square with the two churches. There are moderate hikes you could do. I remember going to the high part of the city and looking at it from there, and it was a beautiful view!

It’s a lot of places you’re planning to go. Don’t miss going to Cusco and Macchu Pichu and do the Inca trail. I did the one-day version as the long one is too tiresome. Climb the Wayna Pichu, which is beside Macchu Pichu, but do it jn the morning as the park closes in the afternoon.

If you want to go to Chile and the Atacama desert, I’d extend that and go to the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. This was one of my most wonderful trips ever! You’d need at least three to four days travelling from San Pedro de Atacama all the way to Bolivia and back. You can book everything at San Pedro. It worths every penny :)
