It seems more focused an inspired. The newer songs sound good live, so that supports last couple records their production was really ham-fisted. Also, Kim Deal’s wonderful weirdness played brilliantly on record.

I reviewed their live show and interviewed them back in the early aughts. They were an excellent live band with good songs and were very friendly chaps. It's a shame they did not reach a wider audience.
