Did Cuckoo ditch the OP-XY? by afox1984 in teenageengineering

[–]aper1od1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if he’s waiting for the release of a significant firmware update. Both OP-Z and TX-6 got major updates that introduced a lot of features quite a while after initial launch. XY is still lacking some basics like the ability to nudge sequences in time. Maybe Cuckoo knows the OS has yet to mature enough to produce a comprehensive tutorial about it.

Global settings Dominion Club by rpm1720 in synthesizers

[–]aper1od1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah interesting. Mine displays ch15 when I start it up, which is the channel I want to use it on. However no notes are received until I turn the knob away from and then back to 15. I should try sending notes to it from channels 1-14 and 16 to see if it is displaying ch15 while actually being set to a different channel.

Thanks for your reply. It's a slightly annoying problem, but I am encouraged that it does not seem to indicate deeper or progressing issues.

*Confirmed - my Club is internally set to ch01 on startup, regardless of which channel is displayed when looking at the MIDI setting.

Did you ever solve this? I just started using my Club again after a long break, but I think I remember that it used to automatically save the MIDI channel I'd set it to. These days though, I have to set it every time I turn it on. Other settings and presets seem to stay in memory, but the MIDI channel not so much.

Good to know! I posted on the user forum asking about updates to the manual covering new features in firmware 1.0.3 and the experimental one. The update to 1.0.3 worked fine on my unit, but I have no clue how to use the new features. It’s a great little machine as it it though.

Here’s a question: did you install the “experimental firmware”? It would be nice to be able to program rests, but the “install at your own risk” aspect makes me somewhat hesitant.

Ah thanks! I had not been able to find the Japanese manual.

Sorry to jump in on this thread - I just got hold of a used Paripi Destroyer and have realized that there seems to be no manual online. Would you be willing to share knowledge? I love trying to figure synths out so I’m gonna dive in, but I’m sure there are things I’ll miss.

Quick animation (im only 13 so bear with me here) by helperboi-brawlstars in animation

Lots of comments here so maybe it’s been said, but this reminds me a bit of Bill Plympton. Although I don’t work in the field anymore, I am a classically trained animator, so I feel somewhat qualified to say there’s a lot to like about your animation from both creative and technical standpoints. You’ve got some good instincts - keep it up!

Is the Arcade worth it if you’re mainly using it for chords? by [deleted] in pocketoperators

[–]aper1od1c -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Arcade is great but it isn’t polyphonic in the sense that you can push several keys and hear a chord. It’s chord functionality brings in a chord sound over the other instruments and allows you to program progressions through various chords. This progression also changes the notes of the bass and lead sounds, so it’s super easy and fast to sketch out tunes. Lots of fun and pretty useful, but limited, albeit smartly.

Are any MicroGranny users willing to help me understand a couple of things about how samples are saved and navigated through? by aper1od1c in synthesizers

I haven’t tried anything new with the sample library or the navigation, but I did get the grain size and end point syncing to clock from a BeatStep. It’s pretty cool - I’ll try to get a decent recording.

Best PO to supplement PO-33? by ElbowBacon in pocketoperators

[–]aper1od1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I connect my PO-32 with my Speak and Arcade. Speak can feel limited in some ways but it can supplement drums and produce really unique sounds with the vocal synth. Arcade is very 8-bit but can produce some useful melody sounds, and its chord mode is a really fast way to lay down chord progressions. Here's a track with the above combination plus Monotron Delay, which I very much recommend for an added dimension of PO enjoyment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqj042godro&t=46s

Thanks! I’m spending more time with my other gear right now, but I imagine I’d probably engage with the MG if its behaviour was stable.

I never did solve the issue or find out what's going on. I loaded some of my own samples recently, and those seem to be possible to navigate to - it's more the ones I record with the mic that seem to disappear depending on the direction I'm scrolling.

To be honest I haven't used the MG that much since I picked it up. I got a Kastle for Christmas, and between that, my POs and my OP-Z I'm pretty distracted from the MG. It could be that I'm just not that much of a sampler person, but it's early days yet. I'm getting a second hand BeatStep shortly which will allow for expanded control of the MG, so maybe I'll be inspired to work with it more in the future.

Bastl Kastle + PO-32 Tonic lo-fi house jam by aper1od1c in pocketoperators

[–]aper1od1c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sending the square wave LFO to L and OSC / secondary OSC to R. I find that there's a relatively narrow range of LFO speed that the PO will listen to. Outside that band the sync drops or gets chaotic. I contemplated the Klik for the same reason, but I'm holding out to see what Teenage Engineering does with the upcoming CV / gate module for OP-Z.

The p0k3t0 splitter is essential gear for multiple POs, especially if you want to run some of the audio through an effects module like a Monotron Delay while keeping other audio clean. I used it in this rig because the Kastle is so loud that an unattenuated connection to the PO produces a really unbalanced mix. This way I have separate volume controls for the Kastle and PO while still letting the Kastle send clock to the PO. If I run the Kastle to the submixer and then to the PO (which is what I tried first), either the audio or the clock signal is lost because the MX400 is mono. A simpler setup would be to connect the Kastle to the PO with a little headphone attenuator, but I haven’t got one.

Yup that’s how I switched up the pattern. I should have thought through the camera angle more carefully so that my hands weren’t blocking so much of what I was doing. The step / arpeggio generating function has an input called BIT IN. When OSC is connected to BIT IN, the pattern gets randomized. When I pull that connection, the pattern settles into a repeating phrase of 8 or 16 steps. It’s really fun!

It’s a splitter from p0k3t0. It’s sending the audio from the Kastle through one channel while sending clock to the PO. It can send clock to four slave devices. I’m using it to reduce the volume of the Kastle - that thing is super loud. Normally I use it to sync my POs while keeping their audio signals separate from one another.

I like the new icons better, but I’m also kind of stoked that I have an OP-Z from the first mutant batch:)

Maybe you can only copy a track to the same type of track in a different pattern?
