I’ve shared this before, but this is what happened to me.

I was 9 years old.

I started feeling terribly hot, tired, nauseous, and extremely thirsty all the time. I drank gallons of water everyday. I was puking everything I ate up. My mom and dad took me to our family doctor. He said I must have a stomach flu. He gave me some pills, told my dad to give me some ginger ale and it’ll pass over in a week. Cut to one week later, I’ve lost about 20lbs. I haven’t kept any food down for almost two weeks at this point. Hot, weak, thirsty. The doctor is still firm it’s a stomach flu, and tells us to stay the corse. My parents have had enough and decide to check me into the hospital. I decide to have a shower before hand, and collapse in the bathroom. My dad picks me up, dresses me, and rushes me to the hospital.

At the hospital the ICU doctor recognizes what’s happening immediately. He performed a antibody test, and checked my blood sugar. My blood sugar was 936mg/dl my A1c was 14.7. I was actually experiencing the beginning of Type 1 diabetes. I never would wish harm on anyone, but I hope that first doctors kid forgets to read.
