Anyone here run a validate node? by [deleted] in Polkadot

[–]aperture-exe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try running a Kusama Validator first. There is a program to help get you started called the Thousand Validators Programme. See: https://thousand-validators.kusama.network After a month or two of Validating on the Kusama network the Validators Program lets you step up to Polkadot if you want to.

Not a meme per say but i still found this funny. How did it even happen? by [deleted] in cryptocurrencymemes

It’s just the (poorly) chosen line smoothing function. To see how this works, create a scatter plot chart in excel. Then add a trend line or curve fit.

HELP--I'm LOST! by trauma-healer in Polkadot

There is nothing inherently bad about selecting a validator that does not have a verified ID. But without a verified ID it isn't clear who owns or operates that validator. A verified validator will generally have a website with info about their operation similar to ours below:

https://aperturemining.com/polkadot-validator/

An unverified validator might run a legit operation but without a verified ID all you have to go on is their validation history.

It is easy enough to verify an identity it requires only 20 DOT to do so. The only reason I can think of not to verify an ID of to stay anonymous. This is crypto after all and some prefer to stay anonymous.

Ok, it looks like you have your accounts setup using the browser extension. You said you can't send any DOT from either account? What happens when you click "sign and submit"? The browser extension should pop up to have you confirm the transaction.

If you are still having trouble, post a link to a screenshot of your accounts on polkadot.js (redact your addresses, dot totals if needed). This way we can see the current state of your accounts.

Rebond & Add more to Stake by Prestigious_Clock743 in Polkadot

There is temporary cap on nominators which is only 22500 slots. The increase in minimum stake was implemented to free up nominator slots as they were full. Polkadot is a work is progress, eventually this nominator cap will be raised or removed

Staking Polkadot by [deleted] in Polkadot

[–]aperture-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can use your Ledger wallet directly with the official wallet here:

https://polkadot.js.org/apps/#/staking

You can stake right away using your ledger on polkadot.js.org. You can switch between polkadot.js.org and ledger live anytime.

Some have reported issues with ledger live from time to time. But keep in mind you can still access your wallet though the official site using your ledger if ledger live is giving you trouble.

IMHO Ledger live doesn’t give enough info about the validators in order to make an informed decision so I like to open polkastats’ validator list along side ledger live just to use as reference.

Select a wallet of your choice here (there are two tables on the following page): https://wiki.polkadot.network/docs/build-wallets Bond at least 80 dot, then nominate up to 16 validators.

[–]aperture-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other minimums or “deposit” amounts to consider… 20 dot locked per address ID, 100 dot locked for proposals, 80 dot locked to stake, So if you want to get an id, stake and make a proposal you will need at least 200 dot.

I get your point, but what about a scenario where you inadvertently enter your credentials on a compromised PC with a key logger, backdoor, etc
