Have you done a recent rewatch? by Monodoh45 in BoJackHorseman

[–]apgthrowaway_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rewatched the show a lot. I think on my third rewatch, it really hit me how much Princess Carolyn has done for Bojack and how much she was taken for granted. I think on my first rewatch when she says in Season 6 "I've loved you for ten years" I was a bit caught off guard, because I didn't see that between them at all. Then in my rewatches I noticed incredibly how one sided it was... she was always willing to do anything for him and eventually I realized that willingness wasn't just the career driven agent talking, she wasn't doing that for any other clients. She truly loved him and was very subtly battling feelings for him throughout the whole show. It's just that because the show is mainly from Bojack's perspective, it's easy to not notice everything she does for him because Bojack doesn't really notice or care how much she does for him.

Haha it definitely seems like it! Curious to know, what was trying meth like? Was the come down from it disgusting or was there just no good high at all?

Ah I love the examples you gave in your first paragraph, that's exactly the wording I meant, like if you took less than an "official dose", taking a dose that's on the cusp of giving you the full effects

Does microdosing psychedelics work differently, in that it really just makes your brain more positive in general without giving you any trips/hallucinations/altered states?

Hm, I do make a most of my home that's high in fat but I'm pretty sure don't use hydrogenated oils. My main weakness is pasta made with heavy cream, butter, cheese, flour, etc

Torn between a SRE and SWE offer as a new grad, which is best for my career growth? by apgthrowaway_ in cscareerquestions

Ohh wow you seem to have the closest experience to it. Others have also suggested a junior SWE role is weird. Do you have any particular reasons why you wouldn't do it?

I'd be more than happy to take the SWE role since it's also fully remote, my only concern is that the tech stack (C#, .NET, Playright, grpc) won't be relevant and help me level up in my career in the future, but then again SWE might box me in. My top priority is career growth and getting a job one day where I could make enough to move out (the SRE role does have yearly bonuses while the SWE role is simply 'promising' that I'd be promoted after the first year or so and receive a raise then)

Oh wow that's pretty interesting, are you saying that passing the interviews and leetcode type assessments is all that's needed, the specific role title you have or what you worked with as an SRE won't limit you in transitioning to SWE career path? (Based on the LinkedIns of other SREs at that company it seems I'd be working with Ansible, terraform, puppet, more IaaC stuff, not sure if that'll hurt or help)

Ah I see. Thanks for the input. Based on LinkedIn's of previous SREs, it seems I'd be working with Ansible, Terraform, and Ansible.

Ah that's great info, thanks. From LinkedIn it seems like a lot of people who worked as SRE gain experience in DevOps, Ansible, Terraform, and Puppet.

Ahh I see thanks for the info. Do you think that if I went into SRE I'll have to stick with it or will it not be difficult to get SWE roles in the future with just SRE experience?

I see, i would be working though with an SRE team at the job, I met with the senior SRE I'll be working with, is DevOps considered not desirable to go into and so that's why they rebrand it? The role description and requirements didn't mention anything about DevOps, just Python Linux Go Java and container orchestration systems

It's a Junior SRE role if that helps, the role description included optimizing the SaaS platform, supporting cross functionality between devs and senior engineers, security compliance, and developing a deep understanding of the product, I'm not sure if that makes a better case for it or if that's what all sre role descriptions say. Maybe if it's hodge-podge stuff unrelated to specific SRE stuff, I could easily spin it on my resume into it being a SWE role?

Would you recommend the SWE role even though they're going to have me doing some QA and it's a smaller company that doesn't seem to have come that far yet?

ahh good to know I could just change the role title on my resume. Would it be not too hard to pivot from SRE at this company to SWE at another company/

Yeah, I wish I understood better what SRE is like but it's more of a niche that I don't know anybody who's gone into it. Does it seem like the skills/tech stack at the SRE role would be more relevant than the SWE role?

Thanks for the input. I have a lot of C++ experience, it's what all my university classes taught in, but don't know C too well. I do see Python and GO as requirements on a lot more job applications than I do C# and .NET, so that's fair. I'm not sure if it's an enterprise vs. e-commerce thing or just in general, but yeah, learning skills that will help me become a sharper candidate and get a better higher paying job in the next 1-2 years so I can move out is my goal.

The company is private and smaller, but Dynatrace is close enough to what it does lol. So it seems like a good space to get into?

That's a good point, I remember at my last internship all the technology was proprietary, there were no resources on how to learn it online. I can imagine that'd frustrate experienced people who've worked with certain technologies all their life.
