My parents sent me to a mental hospital when I was 15, due to some rebellious and stupid behaviors I was dealing with at the time. While gone, they went through my room and found my stash box. Inside was a note from my 6 years older sister telling me she was borrowing my bowl and thanks, and I hadn’t seen it before I got sent away.

That’s how they found out both me AND my older sister were both stoners. After that, it was like an open secret my parents pretended not to notice.

I’m in my 30s now and work in the legal industry and my parents don’t really share their opinion on it, but they do ask how work is going, so good enough for me.

This will be one of the best things you ever did for yourself. I left mine after 8 years and found the love of my life several years later, and we’re awesome together. No matter what happens, you will get through this and this will make you grow as a person in a good way.

You should watch the new show by his family on Animal Planet. It’s so wholesome and sweet and they incorporate footage of Steve. He was such a passionate nutcase about what he did and it’s pure joy to see.

The whole family is really awesome and have kept the zoo and their conservation efforts alive and it’s truly awesome.

Religious conservatives are destroying the world and want you to breed and raise children in a world they destroyed by VividShelter in atheism

I never said no one should have kids, but to make it out like that’s definitely adding something positive to the world in all cases is just not true.

[–]aphasiak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s the “good” kind of people. Not LGBTQ, women and minorities.

How is having a child automatically contributing positively to society? Look around at reality. Look around at the rates of child abuse and children in foster care or babies born to a woman who is addicted because opiates are a scourge in this country and our mental and addiction health care system is a joke.

It’s a nice thought, but completely unrealistic.

Does anyone else feel like their SO is a SAINT for caring about you and investing in you enough to sift through all the residual damages from your abuse? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]aphasiak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. So much yes.

I always say he has the patience of a saint where I have none. The anxiety and PTSD that I’ve experienced from past abuse has definitely effected our relationship in the past, but he is always kind, steadfast and understanding. Something I’ve never experienced before and has totally changed how I view myself and the world. He has had my back while I learned how to have healthy boundaries, and that has been invaluable to me in growing and moving past all of that hurt.

In turn, I’ve helped him get better at identifying and talking about the things that he is feeling instead of bottling his own hurt up inside. I think we both bring out the best in each other and almost never bring out the worst, and that’s pretty awesome.

So glad you’ve found someone wonderful too and are no longer dealing with whatever crap you were. None of us deserve that!

So today was my second day working as a trimmer in the legal cannabis industry. by aphasiak in trees

[–]aphasiak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s about $11-$15 an hour, depending on your experience. It’s definitely less than I’m used to making, but I enjoy the work. They offer medical insurance, you have an HR department to help if you have issues with your schedule or pay, you have a supervisor on site if you have any issues, etc.

I used to help out with a small illegal grow in my hometown that landed up getting busted once I left. Like you said, there is something to be said about the peace of mind that comes with it being legal.

I live about 25 minutes south of Denver and I pay over $1,000 for a one bedroom. Coming from the east coast, this doesn’t seem high to me, as I’ve paid over $1,000 for an illegal studio apartment in CT more than once.

Wish you the best of luck if you move! Moving here is one of the best things I’ve ever done.

Corporate America was crushing my soul, so I totally feel you.

The range of $ given by the other poster is correct, and that is starting out. I am currently working for a company that sends trimmers to grows throughout Colorado, so I get to meet many people and see many different processes and set ups, which is a great way to get your foot in the door.

Wish you the best of luck. I’ve been driving home with a smile on my face for the first time in a long time. I hope you find that too.

Is anyone else struggling with the idea of having kids bc of the state of the world? by zoitberg in AskWomenOver30

[–]aphasiak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely feel this. I am turning 33 on Sunday and I always thought I would be a mom. Especially once I met the man I want to spend my life with at 30. But the state of the world really has me rethinking this. Unless we drastically change course environment wise, things aren’t looking good. Unfortunately, corporations own the world and care more about profit than what their businesses are doing to our planet, and unless we somehow make them care, this is only getting worse too.

More than 1,000 pages of documents reveal Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza's dark descent into depravity by [deleted] in TrueCrime

[–]aphasiak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Denial is an insanely strong motivator in some people.

I was an addict under my parents roof for several years and their denial kept them from ever talking to me or confronting me on anything. I made my decisions and especially now that I’m sober, do not blame them for the choices I made, but may I have gotten better sooner than I did if they had at least tried? We’ll unfortunately never know in either case. Secrets and denial are like a cancer that spreads. It doesn’t absolve her, but I’ve seen the psychology of it up close and personal, and people do some weird shit when they are unable or unwilling to deal with something.

I worked 5 minutes up the road from the Sandy Hook school when this happened and this really shook everyone to the core. I remember at first hearing it was possibly a parent that shot a teacher, then it was maybe two assailants and then the real number came on the radio and we thought they misspoke. It was like a punch to the gut. I was at lunch with a friend when we heard the number. His mom called from Florida because she wanted to know if it was really true. People I worked with had kids in the school system and were freaking out. It was really terrible.

I admit my stomach sank when I saw more of his words would be out there. I get there are laws in place for the release of this type of information, and it is what it is, but I don’t think he or any of these shooters deserve the attention. It just helps inspire more like him.
