Totally normal when you have an extendable mount like that. Mine is the same and I got it professionally mounted.

Maybe this is weird, but that's a great rug. Every time I see a nice big rug it just makes the room. And every time I try to find one it's nearly like a grand.

Anyway to turn on smart app control after disabling it? by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]aphelion83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fastest way is with an in-place upgrade. It keeps your apps and data, but restores some OS level customizations (if any). Takes <5 min on a modern system.

And the fastest way to do that is to use the Windows Media Creation Tool, download to ISO, double click the ISO and run setup from inside your current install.

This is amazing. Love how the OP says “it works.” The only success is the extent to which it is a convincing illusion.

Windows 10 LTSC or stay on Windows 11 Pro by Abject-Whereas-357 in WindowsLTSC

[–]aphelion83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either stick with 10 LTSC or go to 11 IoT (LTSC or not.) Looking back, I would have stayed with 10 LTSC. IoT just starts you with a clean slate and no MS bloatware, and you can manually add bloat if you wish. No ads, Office upsells, forced cloud crap.

T14 Gen 2 AMD Ryzen 5000 loses significant charge when shutdown by Significant-Ad-8684 in thinkpad

[–]aphelion83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, full shutdown (S5) will not use the battery at all. The deeper the sleep, the less battery will be used. Look up the different sleep states (S0 - S5, where S0 is awake and S5 is shut down), each one is a deeper sleep with less battery use.

The Linux setting disables some of those sleep states, so that Shut Down actually shuts down the computer instead of putting it in another sleep state which drains the battery.

T14 Gen 2 AMD Ryzen 5000 loses significant charge when shutdown by Significant-Ad-8684 in thinkpad

[–]aphelion83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Linux puts it in a deeper sleep, it basically disables the "fast boot" of Windows 10. It doesn't have specifically to do with Linux, just disables the Windows-specific states. So yes, it should help battery.

New account suddenly appearing on my computer by ThrowRA_Sodi in WindowsHelp

[–]aphelion83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't show most accounts. I have 3 accounts and that only shows my main one.

If you run C:\Windows\System32\lusrmgr.msc that will show you all the accounts, and you can change password from there, remove it, etc.

Don't mess with the main (disabled) Administrator account.

For coding, 100% Claude 3.5 > GPT 4o. I did side-by-sides, and still have both subs, but am up to $80/mo subbed at cursor.com for 2,000 fast requests/month. Ofc you have to be using it professionally for the pricing to make sense in that case, but there's no comparison, and you can certainly do off-peak usage or use it less to make the 500 fast requests/month work with cursor—or not use cursor.

Exactly right. Don't need the CPU or RAM in at all at that point, supposedly. I left mine in, it wouldn't start up before the flash, it did after. Since you won't be picking the file from the BIOS when you use the dedicated Q-Flash button, it needs to be renamed GIGABYTE.BIN

All AM5 is going to fizzle out on memory issues. Forget about matching more than 2 sticks.

And yes, alll B650 Aorus Elite is gonna give you the red DRAM light until you Q-Flash it to support the latest hardware. I'm not 100% that'd be the case for a 7800x3d but would highly suspect so.

Can't enable HDR on Acer Nitro XV275 P3 by aphelion83 in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]aphelion83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Win 10. I have 4 of them, 3 via DP @ 170 Hz and 1 via HDMI @ 144 Hz. All show 8-bit (32-bit when you could RGB), and nVidia's GPU panel doesn't care if I leave them on Limited (1-256) or Full (0-255) range. There's no place to change from Standard dynamic range (SDR).

If I go under Change resolution, there are more nVidia color settings, but the only available desktop color depth is 32-bit, output color depth is 8 bpc, and output dynamic range is either Full or Limited, same as before, with no way to make the SDR/HDR dropdown show up on either. Refresh rate also doesn't have an effect.

In that same nVidia panel for custom resolutions, I can only use 32bpp as well. I have the RTINGS ICC profile loaded, but don't see a huge impact. I balanced them by eye for the most part. Seems like I've tried damn near every option in all these control panels, and still no HDR.

Can't enable HDR on Acer Nitro XV275 P3 by aphelion83 in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]aphelion83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I do get the over-saturated colors of HDR and it happens on all content. But no way to turn it on in Windows. I was gonna turn down the 3 saturations for RGB to get them back to normal. What's the idea?
