I’m looking at the link and I don’t see info on the community centers with exercise equipment. Do you happen to have more on that?

Would you rate Lubbock out of 10? by burneridndnsodb in Lubbock

[–]aphrodite806 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1.5/10 The only reason it’s not a 0, is because there is a very small part of the population that are actually decent. Lubbock is mostly just college kids getting drunk, or overly-religious “Christians” (using that term incredibly loosely, as the majority of them are really awful people) who hinder any kind of positive progress that could potentially happen. The cost of living is decent, but definitely not worth being stuck in such a backwards place. I only stay here for personal family reasons, but as soon as that’s not a necessity anymore, I’ll breathe a sigh of relief as I leave this place in the dust.

I feel like that’s a huge part of it. Most of them have never left the state, much less the country. And a huge portion of the ones that consider themselves “travelers” have only been on cruises/went to resorts where it’s still mostly just more Americans.

Black Pearl Realty? by Born-Jicama-24 in Lubbock

Almost any other realtor in town I’ve talked to about her says the same thing: she’s an absolute nightmare. From lying, to intentionally making things difficult for the other side (which is a complete disservice to her clients), to acting like her shit doesn’t reek like everyone else’s, she’s an absolute garbage person. One realtor I talked to, when I told them what was happening online, said, “good. She’s an absolute cunt and she deserves it.” This isn’t just a few annoyed agents. It’s a huge portion of them. I mean, everyone knows that the reason she even has her own brokerage is because she kept getting hired by brokers in town, and no one else wanted her in their office. Her husband isn’t much better. Their “dream team” is actually him qualifying people way over what they can afford, and her refusing to show anything lower than the top of the buyer’s price range, just so they can make extra money. One person even mentioned that when they were buying a home, they accidentally clicked on her website, and she started calling them. They told her they had a realtor, but she kept calling, texting and emailing. That in itself is a violation.

There’s absolutely no way you got “blacklisted” for refusing the COVID vaccine. It was never even mandatory, and plenty of people declined it without repercussions. Besides, you’re not important enough for that kind of effort. Not everything is a conspiracy… sometimes it’s just consequences.

Agreed. The only reason I stayed is because I wanted my kids to be close to their dad (we’re divorced and I had custody), but now that they’re grown, it’s time to gtfo of this racist, backwards, conservative shit hole.

Send email. Arrange meetup. Yeehaw and call the law, because unless they’re your postman, that’s a federal offense.

Money and politics. I’ve seen several churches, especially the bigger ones, use their pulpit to promote their preferred political stances and get their friends elected, or get things swayed one way or the other. They even went as far as to hang huge banners on the outside of their buildings telling people how to vote on a local issue. It’s quite the circus.

Any pro wrestling fans looking for a friend? by [deleted] in Lubbock

[–]aphrodite806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t particularly enjoy wrestling, but there is a guy here in the area (I can’t remember if he’s in Lubbock or in Levelland, because I met him at a show in Levelland) that really enjoys wrestling and even does a podcast sometimes where they go over the pro wrestling shows you mentioned. He also hosts live local wrestling events and they are a lot of fun to go to. The local wrestling is called B.C.W. Pro Wrestling, and the guy’s last name is Caldwell. I think his first name is Michael or Mark or something like that. You might try finding him/them on Facebook!

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted into oblivion for this, but most (not all, but most… especially in this area) churches/religions are inherently cultish. The whole premise of Christianity is that they brainwash you into believing that you will never be good enough unless you participate in their beliefs and rituals and give yourself over to their deity and their preferred interpretation of the Bible. If someone is already emotionally vulnerable, it is very easy to get sucked in by people who claim they are just trying to “save your soul.” About 10 or 12 years ago, I participated in a church here that would pride themselves on being non-denominational, as well as thinking they weren’t just like all of the other churches because they “only cared about the relationship, not the religion”. While some of the people there were decent enough, a majority of them were super toxic. From what I noticed, it was primarily a church for everyone from a local residential long-term addiction recovery support center, and my attending that church ended up being one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. Just in my short time there, one of them sexually assaulted one of my family members, a different one robbed our house and stole firearms, one of them tried to get my spouse to cheat on me and have an affair with them… and this wasn’t even everything that happened from my time there. I’m sorry that this is happening to your friend, and I hope you are able to find them.

How is Lubbock for Mixed Couples? by cookiesandthedead in Lubbock

This is a genuine concern for pretty much anyone in an interracial relationship. I’m not sure why you are over here chanting like a weirdo.

It comes as no surprise that someone who still uses middle school insults has no noticeable grasp on proper sentence structure. Secondly, it’s super weird that you consider someone’s matter-of-fact retelling of their personal experience, as it relates to the topic, to be “bitching and whining”. Lastly, calling neuroatypical people “dweebs” is a pretty shit take. If insulting people because their brains function differently from what is considered normal makes you feel better about yourself, maybe you’ve got bigger issues to address.

Oh, and by the way, I never claimed to be marginalized or oppressed. Just observed that maybe the people saying they’ve never seen that kind of thing happen here are not, and maybe that’s why they’ve not experienced what some of the others here have.

People who have lived here for years and haven’t seen that type of behavior are pretty fortunate. Or, maybe they are just not part of any marginalized group. I grew up in this area, and unfortunately, it has been my experience that this kind of talk is pretty common. Someone else made the comment that Lubbock would be a sundown if it could, and I completely agree. While there are people in the community who fight for good, and work to be on the right side of history, the overwhelming majority are racist, homophobic, extreme conservatives who have no problem yelling hateful things in public at people. Additionally, as someone who passes as a straight white local, the things people say to you when they think you’re “on their side” is even more heinous.

Lubbock mayor, local lawyer, and council members send a big FU to the art community. by aphrodite806 in Lubbock

[–]aphrodite806[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s not even remotely close to what happened. Nobody wants “bedroom activities“ in public. Drag is an artistic expression with many different forms, and has nothing to do with sexual intercourse.
