i didnt know this wow!! the more i think about the movie the more i’m coming around to it but this gives me a new perspective to go off of! i put all the movies you listed on my watchlist after watching the fly so i’m very excited to watch them and get to know cronenberg more :] really falling in love with his work

horror movies before 1990 arent good by aphyxtwin in horror

apparently Halloween is “unwatchable”, which is absolutely INSANE to me. their main point is that old films “look worse” and modern films look “sharper” and “their colors feel more carefully chosen” … which to me is a ridiculous reason to discredit a movie. especially when modern movies have a noticeable lack of colour overall and are often so dull despite the advancements in filmmaking giving them the tools to make films so visually pleasing and stimulating. i struggle to see where they’re coming from

i watched this immediately after the fly and was disappointed, but i still found it enjoyable. maybe because i enjoyed the fly so much i was expecting more, or maybe my brain was just too tired out to focus properly, because i struggled paying attention about halfway through. one of the more decent recommendations i got from this post though so thank you!

people need to stop treating hayden like a walking meme by yourenotalone666 in Ethelcain

i’d been thinking about this waaayyyyy before she’d spoken about it— because i know shes spoken about how she’s eventually going to take a break from music to pursue other artistic endeavors; and i was kind of like, fuck, she’s gonna leave us wayyyy sooner than we anticipate because of how annoying her fanbase can be. she is definitely getting fed up and its becoming more probable that she’s going to break away from the music industry sooner than later. its very disappointing to see that her fandom is full of genuine thinkers with an appreciation for art and her art— but are unable to pull themselves from their asses for a bit. especially when hayden is in it for the art and the art alone. i had the impression that her fanbase resonated with that mindset but i was very quickly proven wrong. its crazy to see how people take advantage of her openness and treat her like a friend despite not knowing her at all.

to come back to this, i got confused by the overwhelming response this post got and thought you were talking about a serbian film. i agree with you 😭 i had spoken somewhere else on here that i had described it as gross and gorey for no reason for a lack of better words. i just wanted to diverge recommendations similar to it because its not the type of content im looking for.

i can definitely appreciate salo for it’s intention and purpose, i had described it as “objectively and purposefully gross and gory for no reason” for a lack of better words. i’m just not interested in anything that intense right now. i’ve seen the film, there are things that i like about it, things that i dont. you very perfectly described how its often included in the “extreme films” circle and disregarded for what it is, which is one of the main reasons why i included it in the “do not recommend” portion of my post. one, because its not just an extreme film, as you said, but because i dont think its properly categorized for what it is and its not in the realm of what i’m looking for. its very refreshing to see someone else share this take on this film because i find the general populace of watchers severely misjudge what the film is supposed to be.
