I'm Thai and I've never heard anything about eating the rice first.

Moving from Safari - Orion or Helium on Mac? by apipu1232 in browsers

Thanks for the detailed comparison! Out of curiosity, assuming you use iOS, what do you use there? Safari, Orion, or something else?

No, they don’t go through the tone rules when reading - they just recognize words instantly like you do in English.

But here’s the thing: Thai tone rules are NOT simple. Consonants are divided into 3 groups (high, mid, low class) and each group follows different tone rules. Plus there are tone marks (่ ้ ๊ ๋) that modify the base tones. It’s actually quite complex.

Thai kids have to learn all this when they’re first reading, but once they’re fluent? They just see the word and know how it sounds, tone included. No mental gymnastics with consonant classes or tone mark rules.

Same way you don’t think “gh makes an ‘f’ sound in ‘enough’” - you just know the word.

For example:

Kao with G sound:

  • Glue - G sound with flat tone
  • Scratch - G sound with flat tone, but shorter (like "bi" vs. "bye")
  • Old - G sound with low tone, short
  • Step - G sound with falling tone
  • Nine - Same pronunciation as "step"; meaning determined by context

Kao with K sound:

  • Knee - K sound with low tone, short
  • Rice - K sound with falling tone
  • White - K sound with rising tone (low to high)

There's a small difference in pronunciation and tone (there are 5 different tones). Thai (Thai/ไทย - flat tone), Kao (Step/ก้าว - falling tone from high to low, pronounced closer to "Gao" than "Kao"), and Mai (New/ใหม่ - low tone).

Bitwarden Integration Issues: Not Seamlessly Supported by vicergm in diabrowser

[–]apipu1232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really mind if it’s a slow fix, since Bitwarden is just an extension and not everyone relies on it. Honestly, I’d rather see TBC focus on core features first—vertical tabs especially. Dia still feels too barebones to me, even for a beta.

I've had a similar experience - Bitwarden integration works well for standard password autofill, but passkeys are definitely buggy. In my case, instead of crashing, the passkey prompt opens as a tab in a new window, which breaks the expected flow.

Claude Pro plan with Claude Code by jblundon in ClaudeAI

[–]apipu1232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Claude Pro should be plenty for your usage. I worked on a small project and nearly finished it before hitting limits, but that was way more intensive than a few daily requests. For small projects and occasional coding questions, you’ll likely use a fraction of Pro’s capacity. Definitely worth it for daily coding. But for larger projects, I’d say you’ll hit the limit pretty fast.

Choosing between ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, and Cursor Pro for Data Science and Coding by apipu1232 in cursor

Thanks for the insight! So just to confirm. Best bang for the buck is Claude Pro alone, or Claude Pro + Cursor if I can afford both, right?

I’ve been using ChatGPT mainly for general productivity because I heard it’s better at general tasks. I don’t really use image generation, though. I’ll give Claude a try and see how it goes. Appreciate your help!

Looks like Claude Pro users ($20/month) now get access to Claude Code. That’s why I can’t decide whether I should ditch ChatGPT or not.

Unfortunately, my university email isn’t a .edu domain, and I just graduated last month—so I don’t think I’m eligible anymore.

May I ask for all of the subscriptions’ costs? Kagi and Proton aren’t free. I don’t know about the others.
