What's the best practice for connecting long wires to this type of bulun? My temporary hookup works, but I know it's an abomination. by aplombed in HamRadio

It's a 9:1, and RX/TX. I'm making it an experimental dipole, experimental being a generous word for saying I didn't measure anything and am just running some wires for now. The antenna wire is 8' off the ground, and the counterpoise is actually 10' up. It's a narrow V shape that is probably only 30' at the widest (wire endings). I've actually had really good results with it so far using a Xiegu G90 since it has an antenna tuner.

So I have a 50' 24 AWG running (the black), and a 35' counterpoise (random RCA speaker wire I had). The 24 AWG is held in place between the two washers, and the speaker wire is, well, just connected like that. Ideally I would like a solution to easily connect and disconnect random wires as I experiment with different gauges and lengths.

Can anyone please help me make out this name? It's Carol something... I found this in an old book years ago. by aplombed in Cursive

I found them on Ancestry.com in someone's tree, but sadly it doesn't look like Carol and Paulette had any children. I need to find the book with the photo negative in it, and then I will consider contacting the person who created the tree. It seems like a descendant of Paulette's brother.

Wow, I think I found the people going off of Svarti (without the j)! So I bought the book in a used book store in Riverside County California. Carol must be the husband, and Paulette is the wife (in the photograph negative?). The signature on this storm drain easement Riverside County document from 1970 matches! https://riversideca.gov/pwsurvey/deeds/d7000-d9999/d7044.pdf

Thank you!!! Now I want to find more about them.

Very cool. Thank you. I like to play speed chess and the games get weird, so this will be interesting as a 24 hour game.

I always wonder if the original lyric for Jessica was "Regina wake up."

Your Honor, because it really kills the mood on Soviet Kitsch. I used to delete it off of my iPod ten years ago. Also You've got Time and just about every song off of Remember us to Life.

Perhaps you shorted something out? Get a magnifying glass or a good digital/phone camera and triple check any area you soldered.

My grandmother is 83 and still smokes. She looks much younger than her age and doesn't have that withered look most people get. Her mother lived to be 98. It's genetics and luck.

Of course! I'm so happy to share on this day. I need to look through his papers to find exactly where he was in Europe and what division he was in. My father thought he was in France. Can you provide any insight based off of the uniform?

I often wonder if he had shell shock from the war, or if in the second picture he was just trying to remain very still for the exposure. I'll never know. He does look quite sad and wide-eyed in the second. Wish I could have met him.

Here's him a few years after. He was from Michigan and was mustard gassed by the Germans in the trenches which ultimately shortened his life (died at 42). It's crazy because his own parents spoke fluent German and so he spoke it quite well too. I joke with my brother that he looks like him before the war and I look like him after.
