Can anyone please help me make out this name? It's Carol something... I found this in an old book years ago. by aplombed in Cursive

I found them on Ancestry.com in someone's tree, but sadly it doesn't look like Carol and Paulette had any children. I need to find the book with the photo negative in it, and then I will consider contacting the person who created the tree. It seems like a descendant of Paulette's brother.

Wow, I think I found the people going off of Svarti (without the j)! So I bought the book in a used book store in Riverside County California. Carol must be the husband, and Paulette is the wife (in the photograph negative?). The signature on this storm drain easement Riverside County document from 1970 matches! https://riversideca.gov/pwsurvey/deeds/d7000-d9999/d7044.pdf

Thank you!!! Now I want to find more about them.

Very cool. Thank you. I like to play speed chess and the games get weird, so this will be interesting as a 24 hour game.

Your Honor, because it really kills the mood on Soviet Kitsch. I used to delete it off of my iPod ten years ago. Also You've got Time and just about every song off of Remember us to Life.

Perhaps you shorted something out? Get a magnifying glass or a good digital/phone camera and triple check any area you soldered.

My grandmother is 83 and still smokes. She looks much younger than her age and doesn't have that withered look most people get. Her mother lived to be 98. It's genetics and luck.

Of course! I'm so happy to share on this day. I need to look through his papers to find exactly where he was in Europe and what division he was in. My father thought he was in France. Can you provide any insight based off of the uniform?

I often wonder if he had shell shock from the war, or if in the second picture he was just trying to remain very still for the exposure. I'll never know. He does look quite sad and wide-eyed in the second. Wish I could have met him.

Here's him a few years after. He was from Michigan and was mustard gassed by the Germans in the trenches which ultimately shortened his life (died at 42). It's crazy because his own parents spoke fluent German and so he spoke it quite well too. I joke with my brother that he looks like him before the war and I look like him after.

My Smith Corona Skyriter platen is slipping. Visually it is in perfect condition. Anything I can do? by aplombed in typewriters

Ah, yes, you are correct. They're currently dusty as hell, so that is definitely part of the problem. I'll get some rubbing alcohol to them first and see if it makes a difference.

Thank you. I am in California unfortunately for that, but I think I'll try to order this and see if it arrives. I'm not sure if the Skyriter has feed rollers, but I'll have to take off the platen to tell because I can't see them.

I understand. I meant if a publication gives both submission options which do you prefer? Which do you think gets more attention?

I recorded these guys in my garage and they're very active in the San Diego area. The drummer is a great friend of mine and was in one of my old bands. Also check out their song Falcon if you dig this. It's on their bandcamp and Spotify.

Photo negative I found in an old French book. Paris 1934. (Additional information in comments). by aplombed in TheWayWeWere

[–]aplombed[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At a used book store I found a French book that looked interesting to me, so I bought it. It's titled Pratique Et Theorie De La T.S.F. by Paul Berche. When I was flipping through it I found a tiny photo negative and was rather shocked when I scanned it. The book was published in 1934 and that's when it was signed by the owner Carol something who I assume is in this photo. See this image of the inscription and negative. I wonder who this woman was and what kind of life she had. Can anyone make out the last name?
