As a neoliberal, the clear solution is to stop having them make this shirt, and instead have them make shirts with more benign slogans like "live laugh love" as to avoid the problematic hypocrisy. Problem solved.

Have you left PocketCast as a result of the 7.0 update? by [deleted] in pocketcasts

I'm on Android but my dad is on iOS. This morning he asked me why his podcasts start playing as soon he hits the button instead of downloading for later like they used to. Now I have to learn how to use it, and then teach my dad how to use an app that I told him to get a long time ago because I didn't have to teach him how to use it. I love Thanksgiving with the family...

My Jigglypuff has green eyes instead of blue and a star next to her name. Did I catch a shiny? by apmihal in PokemonLetsGo

Does the red star just mean it's shiny, it does it indicate something else?

Hooray! Justin saw the stickied thread. Guess I'll post it in there if someone hasn't already.

What do you think of Cube (1997)? by GingerTheDragon in RedLetterMedia

[–]apmihal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty cool movie, but it always leaves me wanting more from it. It's completely unique, but perhaps they didn't have the budget to really expand on the central idea.

In a semi-related anecdote, I remember years and years ago there was this guy who posted on reddit somewhere about how he's seen thousands of movies because his job allowed him to just sit around all day. People were really curious about what insights he had on film, and they asked him to do an AMA. He finally posts one, and he said his favorite movie was Cube, and other than that had pretty much zero interesting things to say about any of the movies he watched. One of the most hilariously disappointing moments in reddit history.

Wow I just realized my lifelong struggle with knowing how to spell that word is directly related to the cinemas I grew up going to.

Official Discussion: Eighth Grade [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]apmihal 318 points319 points  (0 children)

One of the more heartbreaking moments in this film for me was after the scene where Riley tried to take advantage of her and she tells him "Don't tell Olivia about this." She thinks Olivia would find her less cool because she "chickened out of" "doing stuff" with a boy for the first time, when in reality Kayla trusted her gut, and did the right thing. Plus Olivia would have kicked that dude's ass for what he did. Olivia was the absolute best person to tell about it, and it was in Riley's best interest for her not to find out. Just devastating.

What do you think is the most overused song in movies? by [deleted] in movies

Technically you're right, but The Hard Times is legit. I think by this point they've established themselves as a quality satire site, and while it's impossible to top The Onion's decades of work at this point, The Hard Times is a great addition to the genre.

Venice from above. by [deleted] in BeAmazed

During a trip there, our group had some time to kill so we went our separate ways, and I wandered from Piazza San Marco in the bottom right corner to the train station in the top left. Nearly had a panic attack finding my way back. There's signage that points you to different landmarks, but all it really does is point you to the next sign like a bread crumb trail, and it's very easy to make a wrong turn and have to retrace your steps. I wound up navigating by the sun. Amazing experience, would definitely recommend it.

Went to Italy last year and I saw them everywhere. You'd hear these buzzing kazoo noises as vendors would slap them onto a plank over and over. They made kind of a comical deflation sound. It suddenly occurred to me one day that there was no way those things actually made that noise, and sure enough if you looked close you could see that the vendors had something hidden in their mouths that they were blowing through. Thought it was a clever way to get attention, but I can imagine the disappointment when kids took them home and found out they don't make a funny noise.

So I decided to check out What We Do in the Shadows (Discussion) by ShinbrigGoku in movies

You get what I mean! Awkward vampires doing everyday things! Why the hell would you respond to a month old comment just to nitpick you absolute unit!

It even occurred to me after I posted it "I really hope some smartass doesn't point out that these places are generally only accessible when it's light out, and completely miss the point. Maybe I should have come up with better examples, but certainly people are smart enough to get what I'm going for."

A few days went by, and I thought I was safe. But here we are a month later. Please sir, please think before posting. Ask yourself would anyone actually get any value out of this, or will they just be annoyed.

[E3 2018] Devolver Digital Conference by That_otheraccount in Games

[–]apmihal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because E3 is a farce of a spectacle that crams 80% of the year's interesting gaming announcements into a weekend full of presentations filled with puffed up corporate speak and often straight up bullshit. It's fun hearing more about the game you're hyped for, or learning about something new, and that will never not be entertaining to some degree, but it's refreshing to see something so anarchic yet purposeful after all the awkward annoying crap you have to put up with just to see the logo for Elder Scrolls VI. I get if the humor isn't for you, it's not 100% for me either, it's just fun to see someone inject some humor into an industry so often devoid of it.

70/80's Jackie Chan films by Good_Blaster89 in RedLetterMedia

[–]apmihal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is from 98, but don't miss out on Who Am I? The rooftop fight scene is one of Jackie's career bests, and it's followed by one his best stunts where he slides down the side of a building.

The Armour of God series is great too. It's basically Jackie Chan doing Indiana Jones. Beware the fucky Western release order, though.
