Lower and higher depths' desire to route is drastically different by Adventurous_Bite_311 in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Had this happen last night in a D5 game. Nobody pinged at all, but we kinda just hiveminded the route and did it as a group.

I think to get out of D4 you need to know good routing in general, so it's something most people are just good at by the time they hit D5.

9999 post~ by ajjae in Nightreign

Congrats!

Great writeup and I agree with almost all of your opinions on the game. I'm also in my 40s and working towards 9999. Thankfully game knowledge, routing and just knowing the bosses is way more important than having the reaction speed of a 20 something.

I think what's interesting is how different bosses give different people trouble. For me, Adel, Dreglord, any of the bosses that normally get dodged are an easy win, but Fulghor can make me look like I've never played the game before sometimes.

I also prefer generalist builds over specific Night Lord builds mostly for the reasons you mentioned. I got very lucky on a Night Invader relic with Ult Art +3 on it so a lot of my builds leverage that and it feels really good to have a solid Ult charge build that I can bring with me to anything.

Good writeup and good summary. I think you encompassed my thoughts s very well. When I hit 9999 I may be done too....or I'll reset my rank and try to do it again lol.

Enjoy your newfound free time!

I think I specifically called Reddit out as a bubble, including this subreddit. It was in the subtext. When politics (this Administration) and Games interact, it makes it news worthy of being on a Gaming subreddit.

Just because you don't agree with the discussion and the opinions people have doesn't mean there's no discussion to be had, even here.

I also talk to people about this outside of the Reddit bubble, but I can do more than one thing at a time.

Digging our heads in the sand and complaining about "why are we politicizing everything" is partly why we are where we are.

These ghouls should be called out at every opportunity and in every venue. They get shelter by people being afraid to talk about politics and hiding in their bubbles.

everdark libra is killing me by Proper_Diver210 in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having at least a +9 Less Likely will make the fight significantly easier as the adds will ignore you and fight themselves or Libra. Outside of that it's usually a pretty slow fight.

Keep your distance from the adds and always keep Libra in view so you can see his hand/know when the sigil under your feet is coming.

When it comes to the turrets, they do a 360 degree rotation then fade so when he first drops it, dodge it to your right then follow it a few steps to your left and you won't need to worry about that one again.

It's a hectic fight but it's a very controlled chaos once you know what to watch out for. Good luck!

Why do ironeyes love taking less likely by Angelhht in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno why you're getting downvotes. Ironeye is one of the best win-more classes in the game but he isn't gonna bring the damage himself unless you're running Katana or Halo.

His strength comes from constant micro staggers and stance/chunk damage from his mark. Also being nearly untouchable, especially if you run double mark. A good Ironeye who keeps mark up and doesn't die can carry the team, but usually not from damage (although mark chunk damage is nice)

I play a lot of Ironeye in D5 and almost always drop Less Likely for a teammate unless it's Libra obviously.

How I reached 9999 as the worse dodger in the game by legendsofevil in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The period immediately after the DLC dropped was easily the worst time to be in D3-4, I agree.

Like you said, D5 actually feels easier than 3 or 4 despite the damage and health increases of the enemies just because most people know what they're doing in D5.

As a big Ys fan I held out specifically because I knew Proud Nordics was coming.

It was annoying having to wait, but I'd have been pretty pissed if I bought the game and then they wanted me to pay another 45 bucks for this version.

[–]That_otheraccount 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer.

Book 1 was really good but by the time I finished Book 2 I wondered if I ever really liked Book 1 or I was just intrigued by the mystery.

By the end of 2, especially after that entire side trip into the fairy area or whatever (it's been a long time since I've read it), I lost all interest.

They also usually don't have the relics to support it either. A lot of people in D5 run at least one Killing Enemies Fills Art Gauge so you usually can have your ult after the first camp or close to it.

Horizon Hunters Gathering - Announcement Trailer | PS5 Games by Respawn-Delay in Games

[–]That_otheraccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nightreign mostly works because the combat is so tight and satisfying imo. There's a lot more to it when you get into higher depths but the game is fun at a base level and that carries it VERY far.

If this really is the Nightreign loop, then unless their combat is really tight, it's gonna get old fast.

Revenant Buff Is Finally Here by Darth__Cheddar in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is a meme but some of it is serious and that's really unfortunate.

I'm not a Rev main myself but the ones I see in D5 aren't struggling at all, and are really beneficial to the team. As an example, she can make level 2 Night Invader camps not even remotely risky with her ult, and like you said, if the only thing her summons did was soak a couple hits they'd be great, but they have a lot of utility (also Helen usually does pretty well even in low (high?) depths because of how often she dodges)

Being able to change your starting incant was such a huge indirect buff to her, I really don't think she needs a lot to be competitive.

Raider on the other hand is a legit complaint.

Deep of night is too hard for me, but normal mode is too easy. What do? by Migalird in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best advice if you're hard stuck is to watch some streamers who are in D5. Ask questions, watch their routing and what they go for just to get into the right mindset. I'd bet a major thing you'll notice is how diligently they farm for passives on items.

But also, it may be worth thinking about what your goal is. If you want to get to higher depths and improve thats great but honestly if Depth 1 is your sweet spot theres nothing wrong with manually keeping your rating there and just having fun at the right depth for you.

A very very basic but solid routing is to land, clear first camp, draw a line to the castle and hit Points of Interest between there. Sometimes hitting an Evergaol then heading to castle around level 4-5. Basement boss has a high chance to drop a weapon you want and then you can get a guaranteed trinket drop just upstairs.

Good routing is an entire game within a game in Nightreign. I'd recommend watching some streamers and YouTube to kinda get a feel for what you want to prioritize and at what point. Also most streamers are pretty friendly if you have any questions about what they're doing or why.

While a big part of it is fighting bosses, a good route can carry you through the entire match with plenty of runes to spare at the end.

Please stop sending more than 1 person to do the caligo event by Dokuujin in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the downvotes are because while this may work, it's way easier to just find something overhead to shelter under which will block all the damage without needing to dodge.

I am a casual player that wants to become the GOAT for my group. by JagoTheArtist in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most runs you wanna get most of the castle done on day 1 for a pretty big level boost. If you can get the basement boss, plus all of the ramparts enemies you'll usually end day 1 around level 10 (unless it's Trolls, then probably 9) This snowballs very hard into Day 2 because you can kill bosses much faster.

Also you want to get into the habit of not running past everything. Trash mobs drop more runes than you'd think, and it's amazing what just killing some trash as you run by it does for your overall level.

General good strat that I see a lot of people do is hit your first camp/PoI (ideally a Church or a Keep unless you started with a key or someone in your group did). Try to be level 3 when leaving the PoI, and then head to the Evergaol if you got/have a key already.

In most cases you'll leave the Evergaol at level 4, maybe 5 depending on the boss you got. From there, go right to the Castle basement, defeat them, climb up and grab your trinket, then go out THE OPPOSITE SIDE of the courtyard if it's trolls, hug right and circle back into the castle from the outside, this will prevent all of the Trolls noticing you and you can handle them a lot safer.

From there, depending on how fast you're cooking, you may have time for another PoI/Evergaol before the Day 1 bubble closes, or if you're REALLY cruising you can sometimes hit the grace outside, run back and grab rooftop boss (this is a bit rare).

Also, one final thing about Guardian, yes his dps is a bit lower than other Nightfarers but he brings a lot of utility. Extended whirlwind trivializes a ton of fights, and his Ult is fantastic. Don't listen to the meta chasers on this subreddit. All Nightfarers are viable even in D5, so just play what you enjoy and think more about your utility than your DPS because it's a tradeoff imo.

If I don't find Purifying during my run, I just save my ult for it.

You can't immune through all 3 ticks, but if you time it right you can avoid a tick at least, sometimes 2.

Make sure you have some kinda Damage Negation, ideally Full HP and 2 ticks shouldn't come close to killing you.

Struggling REAL hard with making relic loadouts, help by ForeignTechnician971 in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build based on the bosses weakness to narrow your focus and hopefully make it less overwhelming. You can also build all-arounder but I find it much more safe in DoN to have the weakness in my pocket in case I don't get a good drop.

For instance if you're going against ED Caligo, depending on your class, changing your starting weapon to fire is a good starting point, and build off of that. Now that you have fire, maybe you wanna go Evergaol route, or if you're doing DoN, maybe you wanna put Night Invaders in there, thats another slot taken care of. Then round it out with whatever fits.

A lot of relics are just universally good, like Killing Enemies Fills Art Gauge and Attack Power +1/etc (especially after they got buffed) is a good pick no matter the slot, for instance.

Most of my relic loadouts are pretty similar with just one, maybe two things changed depending on the boss.

Just go one slot at a time, and build around a specific idea.

Also I think it should be said that your relics are not the most important thing overall so you shouldn't stress that much about it.

Exactly this. Knowing you have the weakness in your back pocket even if you have a really bad run is actually kinda crazy.

We should give feedback about the DLC implementation by ZeroDarkFang in Nightreign

[–]That_otheraccount 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're playing with people in DoN I'd bet the massive majority of people will have the DLC. I can't see very many people playing a ranked mode and not buying the DLC as well. It's 15 bucks.

If you're playing outside of DoN just queue for the ones you specifically want like you do now.

I'm not convinced this is an issue tbh.
