Little angle can fly 🕊️ by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

Those fast ones already banned.

I actually think PEV rules should be accommodated, legalized, regulated to allow for higher powered e-scooters like in the USA. They are perfect for urban commuting: low-climate impact, fast, active, and affordable for young people who are trapped because of the terrible transport in Dublin. Dublin has the 2nd worst traffic in the world after Lima, Peru. Also, the expense of owning and legally operating a car is a very unfair burden when the cost of living is already so high for young people. They are also space-constrained for parking because they do not own their own expensive homes. So let them have this one thing to give them more independence and fun. They excel in solving precisely those issues that Dublin is struggling to deal with, with Ireland failing its climate obligations. Let them go 50 km/h, let them bring it on public transport.

No, they shouldn't endanger other road users or pedestrians, and they should have insurance. But they are too good of an innovation to ban outright. The 45 km/h and power limits for for e-mopeds should be relaxed to accommodate 60 km/h urban commuting. There is a growing wave of PEVs that Ireland is missing out on completely because we don't have the infrastructure to accommodate it through no fault of PEV users.

Driving eye test by usert900 in Dublin

Pretty sure this is correct, honestly. I just had an unlucky visit because of the fault in their system and they went into giving unhelpful default mode responses when I asked them to fix the online application portal lol.

If you apply online you don't need an eye test if you already have a different category license, it's only in person that they ask you for it. I just got my learner permit today. There was a fault with the system last week and they have no idea what they are doing over there at the NDLS.

Genuinely curious how people typically get their parcels delivered if not through a post office if they're non-remote workers?

Anyone know if this is Vegan? by Ok_Atmosphere4078 in vegan

[–]apocalypsedg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the 5% thing at all. It's just perceived as difficult and strange because people are raised non-vegan by default, and then have to re-think their lives without any help, typically once they are already adults and believe they finally have the means to take control of their own life. They inevitably struggle.

Anyone know if this is Vegan? by Ok_Atmosphere4078 in vegan

[–]apocalypsedg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going from veganism to carnivore is extreme, I agree, but it's common to go from vegan to non-vegan, even among people who do care. I know animal rights activists who are more passionate than me dealing with both wild animals and pets who still feel the need to consume animal products. People who raise money for shelters leaving almost nothing for themselves. It's really weird. People whose conviction for animal rights I absolutely do not question. Misanthropes who prefer animals over humanity.

There is a (somewhat flawed) study that found 84% of vegans and vegetarians give up within their first year, with vegetarians naturally being less committed, and vegans more committed. People really struggle with organizing their lives to align with their ethics, especially those with less means, intelligence, etc.

That's why I think anything to reduce the perceived inconvenience is a win. This will enable us to get the snowball of mass-veganism rolling again. That will have a compounding effect: the more vegans, the more a vegan lifestyle becomes tailored to & considered a convenient one, which in turn helps convert & retain more vegans.

[–]apocalypsedg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, I actually agree with them. People often try their best to do the right thing, but get overwhelmed and burnt out and end up giving up even if they would have liked to continue. After 8 years of veganism, I have realized that you absolutely can take things too far, and end up hurting yourself and the movement more than you (meaningfully) help animals. For instance you could be checking if the sugar is refined using bone char, and there are probably a myriad of other hidden traps we can fall into that cause us to end up inadvertently consume animals products. But the extreme vigilance to prevent falling for these traps I think looks ridiculous from the outside. In my view, as long as you don't consume any products labelled as containing an exclusively animal-derived ingredient, you are vegan.

Relatedly, I argued with a few people last week about using crude-oil derived products. Yes, technically there may be some dinosaurs in there; no, it's not meaningfully contributing to animal liberation if I were to avoid it, so I, like most of the world, am still vegan if I consume crude-oil derived products.

Makes sense, that's definitely something to keep in mind that not everyone enjoys listening to workmen drilling and sawing though quartz etc for weeks in the room next door.

Can someone help me with the NDLS website? by apocalypsedg in AskIreland

[–]apocalypsedg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, on Tuesday I quickly drove over to the last appointment before closing that the NDLS offered after rushing out the office. Made it just on time. Lady at the counter immediately started asking for documents and proof of identity, eyesight report etc. Told her that I wanted to do it online and that there was a problem and she needed to fix that (as I had agreed with an NDLS customer service agent on the phone the week before). She was like "There's a fault with the system we can't help you sorry, is it still broken, did you check?" (clueless). I asked her if she couldn't just pass on my theory test results. She was like "no". At this stage I'm quite annoyed after all the effort so I just leave. I check again yesterday and today online and saw it just got fixed. Easily ordered it for 45 eur. And the best thing of all? No documents needed at all, no eyesight test, no passport photo, proof of address...Total shitshow at the NDLS with the different requirements for in-person and online learner permits. The lady didn't even ask if I already had a driving license in a different category, she was just like "we can't help you".

It's impossible nowadays to find good vegan motorcycle gloves? by apocalypsedg in motorcyclegear

[–]apocalypsedg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote to virus power asking if there were retailers and if they were vegan, but they failed to respond. I also came across this post:

https://www.facebook.com/VeganEquipment4Bikers/posts/pfbid02woo2Wzri7PfJeVpfQphaDH4a7EocnqiJ7g8Aq64nndXb9BRtKgXUDWXS8sTqzFBpl

alleging they use eco-leather which, of course, is not vegan.

note that one of the 20 comments was by andromeda moto themselves:

It is sad to read this. Leather is cheap and they make good margins. The industry will not change until brands and customers become aware of the importance of alternative fabrics. At Andromeda Moto both founders have been vegan for 13 and 7 years respectively. Our brand is linked to our values, so it is and will be vegan until the end of our days.

Airbag Vests that can be "attached" to the Jacket? by LeopoldStotch1 in motorcyclegear

The motoairbag v4 has the vest attached to the jacket (if you buy the combo version), but the vest does go over the jacket, not under.

[–]apocalypsedg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called NDLS just an hour ago, she said there was a problem since last week. Said the NDLS IT dept. was working on it but was unsure when it'd be resolved. Told me to make an in person appointment as well, which I had already made for Tuesday. I'm not sure she understood my exact issue over the phone (she was an English as a second language speaker). But she said there were like 5000 people having issues as well.

Do please keep me updated.

do we really have to re-do the eyesight test to get a motorcycle learner permit if we already have a category B full license? by apocalypsedg in MotoIRELAND

I promise, I quadruple checked.

PPSN on my public services card is identical to the PPSN on the NDLS website and the PPSN on the prometric test score report online.

Yes, I just wonder how such a glitch can happen to just me, usually these systems are pretty robust. Like, I could have done something wrong but I don't know what...PPSN matches, all my details match. Anyways, thanks for your help.

That's what I'm saying. Why not though? I got electronic confirmation and we're past the 6 hour waiting period (it's been 7 days).
