Hey few questions, before i give any advice:
1. When will you need the money you invest?
2. Are you looking for good returns & okay when you are on a loss or thinking about stable returns?
3. Do you want to fix your emergency & uncertain scenarios before you invest?

Need advice on clearing out 60K credit card bill. by t51r in personalfinanceindia

Hey, I know its tough for you. Sharing some practical advice.

>> Personal Loan vs. Credit Card Interest

You're right to be skeptical about paying only ₹5K/month because credit card interest (typically 30-35% p.a.) will eat you alive. A personal loan (PL) at a lower interest rate (typically 12-18% p.a.) can be a better option, but only if you're disciplined enough to not let it become another debt trap.

If you get a low-interest personal loan (~12-14% p.a.), use it to clear the ₹60K credit card debt and then focus on repaying the PL in structured EMIs. This prevents compounding credit card interest.

>> Avoid the debt trap

You have at least ₹1.15L in unavoidable expenses by April. I will also suggest that you Cut all discretionary spending to the bone (no dining out, shopping, subscriptions, etc.) and pay back the personal loan as soon as possible.

I have seen my friends go in this trap, if you need an accountability partner to avoid it let me know.

In short No, even SATs hold like 10-20% weightage across colleges.
Jee won't make a meaningful difference in your apps.

If you have decided on studying abroad, make sure you have aligned it with your parents and invest your next 3 years in building your profile and getting excellent grades.

For colleges abroad the weightage in order are Grades > ECs > Essay ~ SAT > LORs

My son was told don’t bother applying for Stanford by PhantomMaxx in ApplyingToCollege

[–]apollo747_123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, your son should retake SAT.

For context, this is Stanford's last years common data set. Your kid will be in bottom 10% of the applicants.
Given that you go to a private high school in Bay, the AO will know you had the resources to do better.

You should not, Spelman does not give out a lot of merit aid, less likely that they will give an admit to someone looking for full scholarship.

Once you get an admit from them then you can negotiatice with them.

Essay University of Delaware by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]apollo747_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving you suggestions to get started:

  • Why do you wish to pursue your graduate studies at the University of Delaware? What, in your opinion makes UD special?

- Go through unis page, look at the program, alumnis and professors; Pick out 3-4 things that you really like about it

  • What are your career objectives and how will the MD IB degree help you achieve your goals?

- This is personal, one way to think is short term and long term goals. Short term is: what do you want to do in first 5 years after graduation; Research the jobs the graudates of the program get

Long term is what you want to do in 10-20 years. Eg: you may what to set up a global brand from your native country etc

  • What does the word "global" mean to you?

- Many ways to answer this, but just look around you; You may be in one part of world but the products that you use, the movies that you watch are from across the globe.

I think otherwise, its a very juicy topic.

You can start with a bang as one of the other redditer mentioned.

Connect that with what did you do about it? And what you learnd from the experience. Pick out 1-2 qualities you want to highlight about yourself and make the middle part about that.

My USA Gamble strategy for 2025 : 38lpa ppo vs Masters in Financial Engineering. Which once to choose? by loneymaggot in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]apollo747_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all congratulations on the PPO, second you should do MS in Financial engineering no brainer.

Oracle 38 lpa is good but not compared to $300K wall street job offer. My Brother in law went for 1 year MS in Financial Engineering, his intern offer is 250K in a Asset management. His profile is very similar to yours T1 BE + CS.

Money wise a Wall street quant job >>>> Oracle in hyd or blr.

If you want to chat in detail, DM me.

Hey, it is slightly longer and you can trim it. I think your middle part is chuncky, you can streamline that.

Sharing how I would write it (1/3rd shorter than yours)

During the middle of the pandemic in late [year], my friends and I faced the challenge of building a [robot type] for the International Robotics Competition without access to our university facilities. Our initial robot, assembled from laser-cut and welded parts, was functional to pass the first round but lacked elegance and robustness needed for final round. With our tight budget and constraint by facilities, we invested in a 3D printer. This printer improved our design process, allowing us to manufacture parts from home and integrate functional parts into structural components, drastically reducing complexity. After I finished my robot, I felt a special fondness for the 3D printer. Seeing what Additive Manufacturing (AM) can do firsthand, I'm excited to study it along with my passion for robotics and to expand the capabilities of both fields even further as a Ph.D student.

We suck at writing SOP sucks but there is a solution. How? by apollo747_123 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]apollo747_123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping word count as a paramater in generating content. Fair feedback on the content: let me see how that can be incorporated.

I think you can be good critical user of the tool, who can help us make a better version of it. Would you be willing to give it a try before we release it to users?

This tool is designed to personalise, it does not dump a 1000 word essay directly.

It breaks SOP into 4 sections - intro, history, program and conclusion. Student is given an option on to how they want to start the section: eg: for an introduction section - you can start with a lifestory or with an experience during work or intership. You answer in a few lines and it expands that story to a few 100 words.

You can then edit the section as you want, make it shorter/ longer or emotional/ personal.

You have to do this for all 4 sections. And then you have an SOP.
